Agriculture Assistant – Ninewa

Job Purpose:

The Agriculture Assistant will be responsible for supporting Agriculture Officer in the implementation of Safe Returns project’s agriculture activities in Hamdaniya district. He/She will spend most of his time in the field visiting farmers, providing technical support, facilitating training sessions in coordination with trainers, assist in distribution of agriculture inputs or cash for farmers, and follow up with farmers regularly to ensure they implement the practices learned from project interventions.

He/She will also support in arranging FGDs, KII, conducting assessment and gathering data from farmers for evaluations, coordinating with agriculture department in the area, and completing any other tasks requested by line manager.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITES

Quality Project Implementation

  • Select the most qualified farmers to participate in each training,
  • Cooperate with Agriculture Officer and trainers in preparing training materials,
  • Coordinate with trainers and facilitate trainings sessions to farmers,
  • Record farmers participation in training, and document training sessions,
  • Support trainer in delivering training and provide any technical support if needed.

 

Conduct Field Visits, Monitoring, and provide technical support to farmers

  • Day to day follow up with farmers in all targeted villages
  • Monitor the use of machines provided by the project
  • Provide technical guidance to farmers during planting season, and respond to any questions from farmers
  • Arrange FGDs, KIIs, and assist Agriculture Officer in collecting data from farmers for evaluation purposes.

 

Coordination and Distribution of Agriculture Inputs

  • Monitor the process of distribution of agriculture inputs (seeds and fertilizer), cash for farmers, and ensure each farmer receives his entitlements,
  • Follow up with farmers to make sure they use the agriculture inputs received from the project on exact intended purposes.
  • Coordinate with department of agriculture in the area, and any other government.

 

Reporting and Documentation

  • Submit weekly, monthly, annual activity report to project officer and project Manager
  • Support Agriculture Officer in completing monthly report, and completing financial document, and any other required document.
  • Maintain accurate record of all activities for reporting.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Good interpersonal skills and cross-cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to work in difficult and high risk situations.
  • Ability to cope and work under pressure.
  • Well-organized, self-motivated and ability to work in a team.
  • Familiar with Humanitarian Principles and standards.
  • Familiar with sector minimum standards and guidelines such as Minimum Standards for CP in Humanitarian Actions, Inter-Agency guideline on MHPSS in humanitarian settings).
  • Adherence to Do No Harm, Safeguarding, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies.
  • At least Bachelor’s /Diploma degree on agriculture department or relevant field.
  • Minimum 3 years of work experience with farmers and in similar positions
  • Computer literate mainly in Microsoft Office package.
  • Work experience with humanitarian agencies.
  • Management experience (especially managing the diverse team of staff/ volunteers).
  • Fluency in Local language.
  • Working knowledge of English and ability to write reports in English.

 

Required travel and/or work environment accommodations    

  • Up to 80 Per Cent domestic travel.
