AUK Content Writer, Office of Advancement

The Role

Reporting to the Director of Advancement, the AUK Content Writer contributes to the mission of Advancement, Communications, and other institutional units by writing and editing content for dissemination with external constituencies, including advancement letters and appeals, proposals, annual reports, digital and web content, marketing, recruitment, etc. The Writer will work closely with the Director of Advancement and Office of Communications to ensure that the narratives disseminated through various channels are professionally presented, reflective of AUK’s messaging, and consistent with the values of the University.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Write and edit external communications that support the goals and objectives of the University.
  2. Develop compelling content for communications with major and principal prospects and donors.
  3. Support the execution of the fundraising plan by writing appeals, proposals, grant requests, and gift agreements.
  4. Assist with digital communications by writing and editing publicity material and content for the website.
  5. Assist in producing the stewardship reports and materials in support of the stewardship program for the University donors and oversee execution.
  6. Develop templates for standard acknowledgment letters for multiple gift types and gifts agreements, ensure frequent or quarterly updates of these templates.
  7. Develop the content for the giving and alumni sections on the website and ensure compliance with the University fundraising priorities and fundraising plan.
  8. Develop content for the multimedia material for fundraising, and collaborate with the communications team on the editing of these productions.
  9. Collaborate with the communications team on messaging to ensure that messages are clear, correct, aligned with the mission, and address the diverse constituency of the University.
  10. Commit to donor confidentiality and confidentiality of information and projects undertaken by the Office of Advancement.
  11. Maintain professional competency in the field of philanthropy and advancement work by dedication and practice of self-learning and professional development.
  12. Contribute to the success of the Office of Advancement by performing all other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Master’s degree preferred; Bachelor’s required
  • Three to five years of related experience in writing and editing.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills in the English language. Proficiency in the Kurdish and/or Arabic languages preferred.
  • Experience in philanthropy/development writing preferred.
  • Strong computer skills and competency in MS Office
  • Attention to detail and commitment to high performance.

As part of the application process, candidates will be asked to submit a writing sample. Additionally, a writing assignment will be assigned to semi-finalists.
