Badael’s Mission

Badael is a rights-based organization founded in 2013 with a mission to foster transformative justice as the basis of a genuine and sustainable peace in Syria. Championing grassroots civic action and foment the development of holistic truth and understanding within and around the Syrian context. Our approach combines direct assistance and capacity building efforts with bottom-up narrative-shaping initiatives, including research, oral history, and advocacy, so that all Syrians are equipped with the knowledge and tools needed to construct a pluralistic and rights-based society of tomorrow.

Starting Date: 01.08.2023

Contract: Part time/ Full-time Job

Contract duration: one year with a possibility of extension.

Location: Erbil – Iraq

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain Badael’s website and social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube) such as daily monitoring, posting and content development.
  • Working with senior management and the programs team to find innovative and context-sensitive ways of communicating the impact of Badael’s work and advocating for the organisation’s mission to relevant stakeholders.
  • Media Relations: Acting as the focal point for media requests; establishing and maintaining relationships with relevant journalists and media outlets; media outreach; and coordinating media coverage.
  • Coordinating media, social media, public relations, and advocacy campaigns.
  • Writing press releases and coordinating the production of other media and communication products.
  • Recruiting and overseeing the work of external communications service providers, such as graphic designers, filmmakers/ video producers, translators, editors, etc.
  • Monitor and evaluate impact of communication materials and advocacy events/campaigns to target audiences.
  • Convening advocacy coordination meetings and possible representation of Badael during public events.
  • Assisting senior management and the programs department in all communications related matters.
  • Ensure timely and quality production of advocacy and branding materials such as annual calendars, and briefing notes, Human Interest Stories, picture stories, videos, etc.
  • Develop and archive communication materials, including digital, such as press releases and clippings, photographs, audio-visual materials, web resources etc.


  • Bachelor’s degree in communication, media, marketing, or any social science or arts major.
  • Minimum 3 years communication experience in NGO/ aid and development sector.
  • Excellent Arabic and English spoken and written.
  • Excellent knowledge of the Syrian context.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to write very good quality reports in English is required.
  • Computer proficiency in word processing, Power Point, database, spreadsheet, and graphics presentations.
  • The candidate should have a high level of integrity, accountability, and punctuality and be willing to work beyond normal working hours. He/she should also demonstrate and be exemplary in portraying Badael’s values and ethics.
