Purpose/objective of the position:

 

The Community Outreach PSS Volunteer supports the implementation and follow-up of pscyho-social support (PSS) activities organized in the Qayyarah target communities through community engagement and consultations, awareness-raising, and follow up on the planning and implementation of community-led
social cohesion initiatives . He/she promotes an age, gender and diversity, trauma and conflict sensitive approach in all activities, with the aim of strengthening group relations and conditions for peaceful co- existence.

 

Generic Duties:

 

  • Participate in INTERSOS onboarding and technical trainings to gain knowledge on community-based psycho-social support, GBV prevention, and trauma- and conflict-sensitive approaches;
  • Support consultations and liaison with target communities to raise awareness of project activities and foster buy-in throughout the implementation;
  • Facilitate the participation of all segments of the target population in the planned activities ensuring the inclusion of the most vulnerable groups with particular attention to their diversities, age and gender;
  • Support project colleagues in facilitating, collecting and reporting quantitative and qualitative information on the progress of the project in the target communities, through observation and communication with community segments of concern;
  • Carry out all tasks respecting key protection principles including but not limited to: do no harm, non-discrimination, confidentiality and accountability;

 

Specific Duties:

 

  • Support community inception and consultation activities and awareness raising about project objectives and activities
  • Support context, risk, conflict and gender analysis to inform project strategies in the target communities;
    Support mapping of community structures and assessment of peer support groups; conduct focus group discussions and other participatory activities to engage project participants and to better understand their needs, interests and existing resources.
  • Support the identification of participants for various project activities according to interest and vulnerability criteria
  • Mobilize and engage project participants in planned activities
  • Co-facilitate structured and non-structured PSS activities with PSS workers
  • Follow up on individuals and families to monitor their progress after participation in PSS activities
  • Co-facilitate the planning and implementation of community-led social cohesion activities, ensuring
    mobilization and peaceful participation of community members
  • Co-facilitate co-creation and reflection sessions with community members and cascade learning and
    experiences to encourage increased participation of more community members
  • Support identification and operation of Community Centers as safe and accessible spaces, and supervise non-structured PSS sessions, encouraging the participation of the most vulnerable community members
  • Maintain attendance registers and database for each activity conducted; follow up on community
    action points and impact of activities; and support the implementation of conflict-sensitive monitoring framework
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with target communities’ members and leaders;
  • Create networks among community members to advocate for the establishment of community-based protection mechanism
  • Review existing community structures or establish a new community structure to represent the different community profiles in the target communities (Community Advisory Committee); contribute to the development of a Terms of Reference and facilitate regular meetings among members collecting attendance and meeting notes; supporting the community committees in understanding the needs of
    different community groups and ensure equal and meaningful access to services and activities;
  • Maintain comprehensive records on attendances (number of individuals including age, gender, population types) according to project specific templates for all activities;
  • Participate in service mapping exercise in the area of implementation and maintain relationships with
    governmental and non-governmental organizations identified through mapping;
  • Actively identify, document and refer individuals with specific needs and/or protection concerns, as per INTERSOS SOPs; maintain comprehensive records or referrals directly or indirectly put in place, according to project specific templates and procedures.

Person Specification:

 

Education and professional experience:

  • Diploma in any humanitarian related field (Social Work, community services);
  • Previous experience (minimum one year) in similar position with International, national organizations and government authorities is mandatory;
  • Experience working with communities and local leaders;
