Wood is currently looking for Completions & Well Work Engineer to support our team in Iraq/Basra on a daily Basis 5/2 ,Iraq Nationals are encouraged to apply, Basra residency card is required

  • Interpersonal skills to support mentoring and development of Iraqi national workforce. 
  • Completion design for workover and new drill wells 
  • New technologies promotion and application
  • Lead and coordinate rig and rigless scheduling meetings and work plans with Reservoir Team
  • Attend daily WellWork Operations meetings to support on-going WellWork.
  • On-going communications with contractors to continually monitor and upgrade job program and execution.
  • Completion equipment inventory tracking and forecast based on updated schedule.
  • NPT tracking and non-conformance reporting.
  • Daily, Weekly and Monthly reporting versus department KPI’s.
  • Rig and Rigless Completion and Workover Programs
  • Author department well work programs
  • Review/Approve contractors’ programs for both rig and rigless operations that will accomplish work objectives safely and efficiently.   
  • Rig programs include running upper completion with tubing, packers, SCSSVs (safety valves), Electrical Submersible Pumps (ESP) and lower completion with multi-stage frac equipment, swell packers, LEL, etc.
  • Rigless programs include perforating, stimulating, CTU N2 Lifting, Well Testing, Horizontal PLT, etc.
  • Participate in complicate activities discussion and provide feasible and constructive solutions such as well killing, fishing, etc.
  • Strong well control background with an in depth knowledge of rig and rig less well control standards and procedures.
  • Emergency Response
  • Participate in site Emergency Response activities
  • Ensure role in incident response as per the Emergency Response Manual
  • Initiate and participate in Site Emergency Drills to raise awareness of Emergency Response procedures, and conduct team debriefs on conclusion of the drills.
  • Wellwork Management
  • Review deviation to approved work procedures as per Management of Change and work approval process
  • Report incidents both internally and externally (as per the Reporting Matrix) and escalate awareness as per the Incident Reporting Guidelines
  • Use tools to minimize wellwork related downtime, fluctuations in volumes and regain idle capacity.
  • Provide input to the development of wellwork service contracts
  • Work to improve wellwork Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) with subsurface engineering
  • Participate in meetings to steward wellwork Safety, Production, Budget and wellwork performance
  • WellWork Procurement and Materials Management
  • Prepare technical specifications, scope of work, sample job specifications and commercial evaluation criteria for contracting process.
  • Provide technical support to contract tenders, provide responses to contractor tender questions and complete technical tender evaluation and recommendations
  • Monitor contractor performance and equipment delivery schedules and follow up with contractor on performance deficiencies or equipment delivery delays.
  • Coordinate or participate in development and stewardship of Well Work Capital Expenses (CAPEX) and Operating Expense (OPEX) annual work plan and budget.
  • On-going stewardship of CAPEX and OPEX spend to ensure WellWork Rig and Rigless job spending is within approved budgets
  • Interface with WellWork Operations group for rig and rigless program execution
  • Interface with Subsurface Technical groups – Reservoir & Geoscience
  • Interface with WellWork Contractors
  • Interfaces with other FOD Departments (Procurement, Materials and Warehouse, Accounting/Finance, Surface Project Engineering, Maintenance, Production Operations)


  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • 10 years experience in Completion and Workover activities (Rig & Rigless)
  • IADC Well Control Level 4 qualified (certificate to be valid for at least 12 months)


  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Advanced English speaking and writing skills as well as Arabic if possible 
  • Mentoring and coaching local National engineers
  • Mechanical Engineering skills for wellheads and downhole completions equipment
  • Well Control certification, able to determine wellbore capacity calculations, pressure calculations etc.
  • Well-developed analytical skills / problem solving.
  • Highly organized and able to multi task.
  • Strong organizational skills

  • Maximo (Procurement System)
  • Landmark Well Engineering Suite
