Position Summary:

AUK invites applications and nominations for the Dean of the College of Nursing. The College will matriculate its first cohort of students in its Bachelor’s in Nursing starting August 2021.

AUK is a newly established public-private, not-for-profit, special status institution committed to advancing academic excellence, expanding liberal, professional, and scientific knowledge and preparing the next generation of leaders for the community. AUK envisions becoming the leading academic institution in the autonomous Kurdistan Region of Iraq and beyond through implementing pedagogical approaches that impact critical thinking, problem solving, teamwork and the lifelong learning skills required for success in contemporary society and workplaces. Its focus is on developing Kurdistan’s leaders into the future; graduates of the Bachelor’s in Nursing will become change makers in the health care sector.

This position reports directly to the Provost of University.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and implement curricula and build a strong foundation for the College of Nursing;
  • Develop plans to accomplish the mission, goals and objectives of the College in line with the vision and mission of AUK;
  • Engage effectively in developing the academic policies and procedures of the College;
  • Provide dynamic leadership dedicated to excellence in program administration, research and teaching;
  • Hire faculty to teach courses within the curriculum;
  • Support the Admissions and Registration Department in devising tactics to recruit the best and brightest to the nursing program;
  • Prepare and execute an annual budget that reflects the budgetary needs of the College;
  • Promote the visibility, breadth and impact of College across Kurdistan and the region;
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with the Kurdish community, professionals, foundations, etc. to support the progress of the College;
  • Ensure College and curricular policies, procedures, and SLOs are aligned with U.S. accreditation standards;
  • Move the College toward ACEN accreditation;
  • Work with U.S. institutions to ensure compliance on all levels with accreditation standards;
  • Enhance the research capacity of faculty and students within the College by leading research initiatives and cultivating research opportunities;
  • Serve on standing and ad hoc committees, advisory boards and recruitment committees, including the Academic Council;
  • Attend local, regional, state, or national meetings where required or necessary on behalf of the College; and
  • Perform any appropriate tasks assigned by the Provost and President of AUK.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Possess a Ph.D. degree from a reputable university in the field of nursing;
  • Demonstrate ability and creativity in forecasting and addressing the educational needs of a changing nursing environment;
  • Commit to strong and prudent financial leadership;
  • Instill a collaborative community and common academic vision among the faculty, staff and students within the College and University;
  • A goal-driven approach to enhance the recognition of the College regionally and internationally;
  • Familiarity with the policies and procedures of U.S. accreditation organizations related to Nursing;
  • Excellent managerial skills, based on significant experience in administration and a thorough understanding of the structures and values of an academic environment;
  • Capability to utilize developing technologies in directing education and research;
  • Native or native level fluency in English.
