Job Overview

Purpose/objective of the position:

Under the guidance of the medical activity manager, role ensures medical activities for patients and/or target population are planned and implemented in accordance with the project profile, context, INTERSOS protocols, strategy and to universal hygiene standards taking into consideration quality and continuity of care. The role further ensures the supervision and training of medical staff.

 

Generic Duties:

  • Applies medical knowledge and skills in carrying out outpatient consultations, prescribing the necessary treatment, respecting protocols and professional confidentiality.
  • Carries out admission, surveillance and follow-up of patients (i.e., assessment of the evolution of their state of health and the identification of any emergency situation or deterioration) and share vital health updates with family members.
  • Verifies and control the rational distribution of medicines and equipment under his/her responsibility and take care the quality, disinfection and sterilization of the medical material.
  • Ensures all infection prevention control protocols are implemented and adhere to general compliance on standing hygiene standards
  • Ensures adherence to appropriate triage system where patients are consulted and prioritized according to their needs.
  • Supervises the collection and analysis of epidemiological data, checking its validity and informing the line manager or project coordinator about any problem or complication of the patients’ illness, medical error and monitor the proper functioning of the department, equipment or material
  • Provides technical support to the health staff working on the field
  • Ensures ongoing training of the medical/paramedical multidisciplinary team in order to optimize the quality of care
  • Manages the team under his/her direct responsibility according to INTERSOS HR policies and procedures, supervising their performance
  • Ensures the good collaboration with other departments and external stakeholders

 

 

Specific Duties:

  • Medical Doctor will ensure that first aid treatment, stabilization or resuscitation and if needed refers to the nearest Hospital To treat or refer maternal/neonatal complications as In addition, injections are performed per the doctor’s prescription as well as dressings, which are performed according to patients’ needs, respecting hygiene rules and with future follow-up.
  • Medical Doctor will assess , examine and manage the patient using all the necessary procedures and guidelines in the context of the primary health care services.
  • Medical doctor (if applicable) will supervise and manage the ANC and family planning services being implemented at the site of operation .
  • Medical Doctor will collect a complete past medical history and on-going complain. Assess and performs comprehensive clinical examination of the patient using diagnosis test available in an appropriate way. He/she will assess mental health status with particular attention to anxiety, depression, behavioural disorders, somatic disorders, functional complaints, and psychotic disorders. Those cases will be referring to mental health team.
  • Refers suspected SGBV cases according to the referral criteria
  • Prescribes appropriate treatment and plan a proper follow up (if the date of the next mobile clinic is known)
  • Ensure a proper hand over written for transfer of patient. Advise patients how to give the feedback referral (by phone or coming the next scheduled mobile clinic date)
  • Supervise the respect of the code of medical ethics

Person Specification:

  • Essential computer literacy (word, excel and internet)
  • Leadership, people management and development, teamwork and cooperation
  • Service Orientation.
  • Good management of stress and willing to work in a volatile context.
  • Understanding of humanitarian operations principles, standards and best practices
  • Manages effectively his/her own time as well as flexible and available to work over time when needed
  • Good command of written and spoken English,
  • Strong interpersonal and team building skills and excellence as a team player

Honesty and integrity and able to cope with stressful situations

 

Education and professional experience:

  • Bachelor’s university degree in medicine.
  • Minimum 2 years post qualifying experience with at least 1-year work experience as clinician in a Humanitarian/emergency context
  • Possession of a valid practicing certificate
  • Background/familiarity with Emergency.
  • Good knowledge and background of Sexual reproductive Health (ANC and Family planning)
  • Manages effectively his/her own time as well as flexible and available to work over time when needed
