Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified [Economic Recovery Team Leader]

Overall purpose of the role:

The economic recovery team leader is based in Fallujah in Anbar and will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the project activities, ensuring effective planning, coordination, and management of project staff. Reporting to the project manager, the team leader will provide technical expertise and leadership in project implementation, ensuring successful achievement of project objectives related to sustainable interventions.

Unit/department: Economic Recovery

Location: Anbar, Faluja with frequent travels to Bzibiz and other areas of intervention.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Lead the planning, implementation and monitoring of waste management, biogas, Perma Garden and other project activities.
  • Plan and schedule staff responsibilities and schedules by agreement with the economic recovery project manager.
  • Coordinate with project stakeholders including community members and government agencies to ensure effective collaboration.
  • Oversee the development of project staff, resources and equipment to project sites, ensuring efficient use of resources and timely delivery of project outputs.
  • Provide technical guidance and expertise in waste management, including waste collection, recycling, composting and disposal.
  • Conduct assessment and analyses to identify waste management challenges, opportunities and provide solutions to address them effectively.
  • Supervise and monitor project staff, including officers and assistants, providing guidance support and training to improve their skills and capabilities.
  • Build a collaborative team inclusive team environment, promote communication, teamwork, and respect among project staff.
  • Provide constructive feedback to project staff.
  • Prepare regular progress reports, highlighting achievements, challenges and lessons learned in the implementation and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly work plans to deliver identified activities.
  • Lead the officers and assistants and support beneficiary identification process planning and selection.
  • Ensure equal participation by all segments of the Anbar community, taking into consideration issues regarding gender, age and diversity
  • Preparing and organizing the supply chain requirements of the Project, in support and compliance with DRC supply chain procedures
  • Travel to and project support in all areas of intervention in Anbar as well as other areas, including but not limited to Bzibiz informal settlements.

  • Any other duties may be assigned by the line manager.
  • Conduct duties in accordance with DRC Iraq Programme Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs);
  • Conduct duties in accordance with DRC Code of Conduct.

Experience and technical competencies:

Essential qualifications: 

  • Previous experience in leading teams and humanitarian project activities
  • Highly developed analytical and reporting skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (reading, writing, speaking).
  • Strong empathy skills and genuine care and respect for needs of others especially women and people with special needs.
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to determine priorities and attention to detail a must.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, sound judgment, planning and team building and facilitating skills.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural context as a flexible and respectful team player.
  • Willingness and capacity to work in the field and travel frequently to project sites.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Advanced university degree would be an advantage.
  • Minimum 4 year experience of working with UN or Non-Governmental Organizations.
  • Proven experience in development of Accountability systems and tools for an INGOs.
  • Experience in training and capacity-building of staff.
  • Commitment to humanitarian principles and values.
  • Understanding gender, protection, and human rights.
  • Expertise in waste management initiatives.
  • Understanding of environmental regulations, standards, and track record of promoting sustainable approaches.

Education:

  • relevant university degree in environmental science, waste management, civil engineering, or relevant field.

Languages:

  • English (Advanced)
  • Arabic (Fluent)
