Reports to: BGD EcoSec (Economic Security) Team Leader

Duration of Contract: One-year fixed term contract (with the possibility of renewal to an open-ended contract where performance and competencies are key to be selected for further contractual continuity)

The Economic Security Generalist carries out field and office work related to designing, implementing and monitoring the ICRC’s EcoSec (Economic Security) programme in Baghdad-centre Sub-Delegation (BGD SD), under supervision and with limited coaching and support from their hierarchical superior. He/she serves as a member of the Livelihood Support Projects (LSP) team and would be focusing on agronomical activities implemented by the ICRC.





  • Is aware of and advises her/his hierarchical superiors on the socio-economic, cultural and political situation in the country in general, and in his/her AoR in particular.
  • Performs problem and situation analyses in order to identify pertinent issues and needs that would require an ICRC EcoSec (Economic Security)
  • Ensures the coherent implementation of agro-based projects within the larger LSP objectives set in the Planning for Planning for Results (PfR) and the EcoSec (Economic Security) Operational Plan.
  • Ensure the appropriate and timely preparation, verification and reconciliation of the financial documents related to agro-based projects.
  • Represents the ICRC at bilateral and/or coordination meetings with other organisations and reports the information collected for the files under his responsibility.
  • Represents the ICRC principles, mandate and activities to interlocutors and beneficiaries in his/her AoR.


  • Specific Responsibilities as Agronomy Focal Point:

Manages, sets priorities and works independently in the design, preparation and implementation of Livelihood Support Projects (LSPs) with a particular focus on projects involving crop production including:

  • Leads and coordinates agro-based community needs assessments by engaging with stakeholders and beneficiaries to collect relevant agronomic information during focus group discussions, key informant interviews and farm visits.
  • Implements and continuously refines agro-based vulnerability targeting processes, communicates these clearly to local authorities and beneficiaries, and ensures the accuracy of data and information collected during focus group discussions, household assessments and beneficiary registrations.
  • Reviews and finalizes the assessment reports and project proposals for submissions to the BGD Team Leader, ensuring that it contains all necessary information, including relevant examples and coherent arguments.
  • Analyses and interprets both qualitative and quantitative data, reviews monitoring reports, evaluates suggestions and recommend changes to solve problems or respond to needs.



  • Education and Professional Experience required:
  • University degree or professional diploma in agricultural or soil sciences.
  • 3 – 5 years’ work experience in a similar field.
  • Very good knowledge of written and spoken English.
  • Very good computer skills.
  • Strong knowledge of the geographically assigned environment.
  • Good analytical skills.
