Main purpose of the job:

MSF Switzerland is looking for a skilled ER Nurses Supervisor to be responsible for the quality of care, maintenance and organization of the ER ward according to MSF protocols, values, universal hygiene standards and procedures in order to provide a high quality care to the patients S/he is the direct supervisor of the whole nursing team in ER.

Accept and apply MSF principles, values and internal regulations. Apply MSF protocols and adhere to the rules implemented by MSF within Nablus hospital.



Other tasks as Nurse Supervisor includes:


  • Carry out the functions and tasks associated to his/her speciality, i.e. perform as a nurse, whenever required or needed, in order to optimize the resources, contributing with his/her knowledge and experience.
  • Implement all the protocols and hygiene procedures, and supervise that his/her team follow the same standards, in order to warrant the quality of the care and service in his/her speciality.
  • Reporting to, communicating and collaborating with the Head Nurse or Expat ER Nurse Supervisor when available in order to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the activities, according to the protocols and procedures. Working together with all the ER nurses to achieve quality of care for patients and assisting them, if necessary. Maintaining patient’s confidentiality and dignity at all times and respecting the patient’s rights and conditions, being compassionate to patient needs
  • Maintaining the organization of the ER department which includes defining the daily and weekly programs in collaboration with the Head Nurse or Expat ER Nurse Supervisor when available, anticipating the needs and adapting the planning as required. Planning and delegating the tasks to his/her team members, ensuring that the tasks are accomplished and checking that staffs are respecting their work schedule. Coordinating with all departments involved with nursing activities (laundry, stretcher bearers, surgical wards and ER, etc.) to ensure quality and quantity of supply and timing
  • Ensuring the general organization of the department, checking that care protocols and rules on security, hygiene and sepsis are followed by the health care and maintenance personnel and monitoring the quality of the global patient case management and the continuity of care. Participating in medical rounds in order to know the patients and follow the department’s activity. Encouraging daily health education sessions within the unit
  • Supervising and supporting the team under his/her responsibility. Planning and organizing their work (areas, days, absences, visits, holidays, etc.) and coaching them in their work with special focus on following all appropriate protocols and procedures
  • Ensure smooth inter-departmental patient transfers and referrals to external health care settings for further patient`s management
  • Ensuring the quality of care by respecting and ensuring respect of MSF procedures and proposing action plans to ensure the quality of hygiene, sterilization and respect of procedures. Evaluating the implementation of the procedures by doing regular assessments and informing the Head Nurse or Expat ER Nurse Supervisor when available of the assessment results and of any problems
  • Ensuring that staff using medical devices are qualified and trained. Ensuring cleaning and maintenance tasks are performed according to the protocols. Reporting any malfunction to the project biomedical service
  • Managing the department’s stock and weekly orders (pharmacy, sterilization room and cleaners’ items, stationary). Ensuring the follow up of the consumption of drugs, consumables and other medical material and equipment under his/her responsibility and ensuring that the registers are well fulfilled and kept. In charge of temperature control of the fridge in the ER pharmacy
  • In close collaboration with the HR department, supporting the associated HR processes (training, induction, evaluation, potential detection, coaching, development and communication) in order to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required
  • Ensuring that all the administrative procedures, patients’ data and documents are filled in correctly and registered for compiling monthly reports reflecting the activity in the department. Participating in the collection and analysis of medical data, identifying areas causing problems and implementing the necessary measures for the improvement of the service’s functioning
  • Ensure good communication with the medical doctors and other departments (OT, MAT, ER, Mental Health, HP and Log)
  • Provide mentoring, supervision and training to staff to ensure MSF policies and procedures are followed
  • Organize and coordinate the activities of his/her team (week’s schedule, annual leave, absences, etc.), evaluate their performance and define and ensure the needs for training of staff, in order to ensure the coverage of the human resources needs and maintain high standards of quality.
  • Carry out and/or supervise the (decentralized) pharmacy and medical equipment management (drugs orders, follow-up of the stock, storage conditions, inventories, follow-up of expired drugs and their destruction, drugs consumption, etc.) in his/her department, in order to satisfy the needs of material with efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Ensuring that all staff using medical devices are qualified and trained. Ensuring that cleaning and minor maintenance tasks are performed according to the protocols. Reporting any malfunction to the project biomedical service. List item
  • Carry-out and/or coordinate administrative (exit-paper, transfer-paper, etc.), information and data collection (patient files, forms, statistics, etc.) tasks, and elaborate regular reporting, in order to have updated and reliable information about the day-to-day activity in the project, output/ outcome and support decision-taking.
  • Give feedback/ reports to medical focal point.







  • Mandatory Nursing Diploma (2 years) with specialization as an ER Nurse
  • Desirable Bachelor Degree in Nursing (4 years)


  • Essential 2 years of previous experience having worked in MSF or other NGO’s and in developing countries is desirable.
  • Previous experience in managing a team is a strong asset
