Project title: Strengthening Women’s Rights Movements on the Women, Peace and Security agenda in three fragile contexts

 

Project Background

This project will be implemented through a partnership between 3 Women’s Rights Organizations (WROs)  in Iraq and   CARE International in Iraq (CARE Iraq)

BWA is a national non-profit NGO committed to women’s equality and empowerment. They focus on improving the active political, economic, cultural, and social participation of women in Iraqi society, thereby giving them better access to decision-making positions.

The project of the Women’s Rights Organization and excluded groups of women and girls will use their strengthened strategies, capacities, and improved networks to collectively organize, participate and influence in informal (civil society-led) and formal (government-led) decision-making spaces on the WPS agenda at the local, national, and multi-country levels.

and Women’s Rights Organization’s will have strengthened institutional capacity, increased resource mobilization, and improved strategic plans on the WPS agenda that are representative of and accountable to excluded groups of women and girls.

 

Sessions Objective :

The objective of the sessions is to facilitate the development or strengthening of strategic plans for Women’s Rights Organizations (WROs) associated with the Baghdad Women Association. These strategic plans aim to enhance the capacity of WROs to effectively advocate for and address issues related to the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda in Iraq. Through these sessions, participants will work collaboratively to identify priorities, set clear objectives, and establish actionable strategies that are representative of and accountable to excluded groups of women and girls. Additionally, the sessions will focus on enhancing institutional capacity, improving resource mobilization efforts, and fostering networks and partnerships to support the collective organizing and influencing of WROs at local, national, and multi-country levels.

General Job Summary:

will be responsible for leading sessions with Women’s Rights Organizations (WROs) associated with the Baghdad Women Association to develop or strengthen strategic plans focused on advancing the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda in Iraq. The Facilitator will work closely with the WROs to assess their current strategic planning processes, identify areas for improvement, and guide them through the development of comprehensive and actionable strategic plans. Key responsibilities include conducting needs assessments, facilitating group discussions, providing technical guidance on strategic planning principles and best practices, and supporting the WROs in setting clear objectives and action plans aligned with their organizational goals and the overarching objectives of the project. The Facilitator will also collaborate with CARE International in Iraq and other project partners to ensure alignment with project objectives and deliverables. Strong communication, facilitation, and organizational skills are essential for success in this role. 

Scheduling:

The sessions are expected to be conducted during May 2024. Each session is typically one day in length, with a total of four sessions scheduled

Participants:

The sessions will include staff members from national non-governmental organizations with various specialties. The number of participants is typically around 10 individuals.

Initiative Location:

The initiatives will take place in Anbar.

  1. Conduct needs assessments with WROs to identify strategic planning gaps and priorities.
  2. Facilitate collaborative sessions with WROs to develop or enhance strategic plans focused on WPS agenda.
  3. Provide technical guidance on strategic planning principles and best practices.
  4. Assist WROs in setting clear objectives and action plans aligned with organizational goals and project objectives.
  5. Support WROs in improving institutional capacity and resource mobilization efforts.
  6. Foster networks and partnerships to strengthen collective organizing and influencing of WROs.
  7. Collaborate with CARE International in Iraq and other project partners to ensure alignment with project objectives and deliverables.

Qualifications required and experience

  1. National or international in the country is desirable.
  2. Bachelor degree in in Humanities Studies/ community development gender development, women’s rights, Human Rights Studies or other related fields.
  3. At least 3 years’ experience working in NGOs.
  4. Familiar with Topics : UNSCR 1325; WPS NAPs; effective leadership, participation and negotiation; stakeholder mapping; developing advocacy campaigns; engagement in decision-making bodies; social accountability tools;
  5. Fluent in Arabic – English.
  6. Very good experience with MS Office.
