Job Overview
The USAID-funded Ta’afi program is working towards a more stable and inclusive Iraq. Utilizing a rapid grants mechanism, the program establishes partnerships with local governments, civil society organizations, and youth groups in an inclusive manner to implement activities that strengthen community resilience. This is realized by encouraging collaborative action among Iraqis to tackle common causes and empowering initiatives and efforts that aid communities in responding to challenges. The program operates across Iraq, focusing on the provinces of Anbar, Basrah, Ninewa, Salah al-Din, and Thi Qar.
Classification:
• Type of Employment: Short-Term, Part-time
• Location: Based in Dhi Qar with possible travel to Erbil for in-person meetings.
• Work Setting: Dhi qar, Iraq
• Definition: The candidate will predominantly work remotely from Dhi Qar, managing their
own schedule to meet project deadlines and participating in virtual meetings as needed.
Occasional travel to Erbil for in-person meetings is expected to facilitate collaboration and
comprehensive understanding of regional dynamics.
Reports to and contract duration
Reports to the Research officer.
Contract Duration is 3 months with the possibility of extension based on performance and project
needs.
Responsibilities:
Prepare detailed reports on specific issues as requested by the research department,
highlighting critical developments and their potential implications.
• Stay updated on local developments by reviewing news outlets, observing community trends,
engaging with local networks, and utilizing publicly available resources. Summarize insights
and observations in clear and structured weekly reports.
• Attend meetings with the research team to discuss findings, provide updates, and contribute
to broader analyses.
• Quickly respond to urgent information needs, providing insights and summaries of unfolding
events.
• Ensure the accuracy and reliability of information by cross-verifying data across multiple
sources.
• Maintain relationships with local stakeholders, including government officials, community
leaders, and other relevant entities, to enhance information gathering and ensure the
accuracy and reliability of information,
• Assist the program unit with data and analysis when needed, contributing to program
development and implementation.
Qualifications:
• Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, International Relations,
Journalism, or a related field.
• Experience: Minimum of two years of experience in a related field, such as journalism,
research, or non-governmental work focusing on local developments.
• Skills: Strong analytical skills, excellent written and verbal communication, and proficiency in
local languages.
• Local Knowledge: Deep understanding of the local and national context.
• Language Proficiency: Fluency in Arabic and English is a plus.
