The Kurdistan Center for International Law (KCIL) is an academic, non-governmental, non-partisan, non-profit, and independent center that focuses on researching and analyzing international law related to Kurdistan’s communities. KCIL combines advocacy with legal analysis to protect, promote, and fulfill the fundamental principles of International Human Rights Law, International Humanitarian Law, and International Criminal Law in Kurdistan. The KCIL focuses on the study of law, conflict, peace strategies, survey and policy brief, KCIL aims to combine the theoretical and practical expertise of leading academics and policymakers to deliver strategic projects.

About the Project

The KCIL in cooperation with Stefanus Alliance International (SAI) implements a project for increasing the right to Freedom of Religion and Belief (FoRB) through empowering the agents of change, the project spanning 11 months from 1st February to 31st December 2024, addresses the FoRB issues. The project centers around analyze the harmful narratives that lead to discrimination, exclusion and/or polarization, including a categorization of narratives related to religious, and ethnic minorities, as well as an analysis of the way they intersect, and based on the analysis, a FoRB manual in Kurdish language will be produced that could serve people in KRI to greater extend to address the challenges by empowering religious leaders, lawyers, and members and senior advisors of the Kurdistan Parliament to employ their inherent advantages and get equipped with awareness and knowledge about faith and FoRB in order to overcome current inter, intra and extra religious crises and foster healthy coexistence between communities and the creation of a common ground between different religious groups.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage the implementation of the FoRB project in KRI, ensuring alignment with project objectives, strategies, and timelines.
  • Develop and implement project plans, budgets, and resource allocation strategies.
  • Manage and supervise the national expert, including task delegation, monitoring progress, and providing feedback.
  • Liaise with government officials, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to promote FoRB initiatives and foster collaboration.
  • Conduct and analyze context on FoRB issues in KRI, identifying trends, challenges, and potential solutions.
  • Develop and implement advocacy strategies to raise awareness of FoRB issues and advocate for legal and policy reforms.
  • Support the national expert in facilitating capacity-building workshops and training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of FoRB advocates and stakeholders.
  • Compile and disseminate project reports, including project updates, findings, and recommendations.
  • Represent the KCIL in FoRB-related events, conferences, and consultations.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in law, international relations, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in project management, with a focus on human rights, advocacy, and social change initiatives.
  • Excellent understanding of human rights law, particularly the right to freedom of religion or belief.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with governments, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders in a multicultural environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively across diverse groups.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to gather and analyze data to inform project decisions.

 

Required Skills:

  • Fluency in Kurdish and English language.
  • Expertise in social media advocacy and digital communication strategies.
  • A basic knowledge of FORB
  • Familiarity with conflict resolution and mediation methods.
  • Experience in fundraising and grant management (is preferable)
