Background and purpose of assignment:

CARE is working in Iraq to ensure that women and girls have real and lasting equity, while also integrating a climate approach into its efforts in line with the principles of CARE Climate Justice Strategy 2030. CARE International in Iraq strategically focuses on addressing the long-term needs of vulnerable populations. This involves a range of interventions spanning humanitarian action, economic justice, climate resilience, women and girls’ empowerment, inclusive decision-making, rights to water and health, data-driven impact assessments, strategic partnerships, and investment in its staff.

In collaboration with Iraq’s Ministry of Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development, and CARE Luxemburg, CARE launched the ‘Generation Green’ project in 2024 for youth climate change mitigation actions in Dohuk and Sumel districts. The project’s primary goal is to build sustainable action in the face of climate change.  Addressing climate change challenges, including rising temperatures, water scarcity, and air pollution, is a major project focus. The project aims to boost climate resilience through climate-smart agricultural practices and support climate mitigation efforts.  Other objectives are empowering youth, ensuring environmental sustainability, providing livelihoods, and fostering community resilience objectives, with a focus on equality between women and men. The project will be implemented through the Green Generation AgriYouth group.
