We invite applications for a Head Technical Services Library – AUIB Libraries

Reporting directly to the Director of Libraries, the successful applicant will be a highly motivated and dedicated library and information professional with expertise on the Technical Services area. As part of a newly established Library, the successful applicant will set technical services policies and procedures and contribute on every aspect of the delivery of library and information services.

This position will be responsible for:

  • Leading the Technical Services team to set and implement compliant cataloging practices that will enhance learning and research among the AUIB community.
  • Coordinating with AUIB IT the maintenance and upgrading of OCLC WMS, the ILS adopted by the AUIB Library.
  • Acting as AUIB contact for AMICAL’s OCLC Respond suite of services.
  • Serving as library liaison to academic departments and interacting with faculty members to support research and project needs of faculty and students.
  • As a subject specialist for one or more academic disciplines, contributing to collection development and maintenance.
  • Directing and coordinating the establishment of the Digital Institutional Repository and archives for AUIB.
  • Identifying and making available relevant Open Access e-books and assisting towards the adoption of free peer-reviewed electronic textbooks.
  • Promoting the use of Open Access and Open Educational resources among members of the AUIB community.
  • Periodically verifying the functionality of links to digital resources.
  • Compiling bibliographies, simple indexes, pathfinders, guides, and other devices that will aid in locating items from print and electronic collections.
  • Maintaining and analyzing statistics of the activities of the Technical Services area.
  • Participating in Information Literacy classes, outreach programs, and work shifts, when the need arises.
  • Performing all other duties assigned by the Director of Libraries.


  • Master’s degree in Library Science or Information Science preferably from an ALA-accredited program.
  • Minimum of five years of professional experience in the Technical Services area at an academic library.
  • Thorough knowledge of contemporary bibliographic maintenance standards and practice, including AACR2 cataloging rules, DDC and LC classification systems, LC subject headings, and OCLC/MARC records management.
  • Working knowledge of Resource Description and Access (RDA).
  • Considerable ability to learn and administer the bibliographic maintenance function of OCLC WMS, the ILS adopted by the AUIB Library.
  • One year of supervisory or management experience preferred.
  • Considerable ability in oral and written communication in English.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, subordinates, associates, students, staff, officials of other institutions, and the general public.
  • Good knowledge of information communication technology and social networking in reaching out to library patrons.
  • A high standard of professional integrity, flexibility, strong team-building skills, and ability to work in complex settings.
