We are seeking to employ a candidate for the following position:

Junior Paediatrician – Pool

Main purpose of the job:
To provide medical pediatric care to neonates and children in ER/ Neonatology/ IPD/ ITFC and maternity when needed The work is to be performed according to MSF protocols, values, internal regulations, while respecting universal hygiene standards to improve the new-born and child/beneficiaries’ health conditions.

Accountabilities:
– Apply medical knowledge and skills to diagnose and treat emergency medical conditions, including trauma, resuscitation, and mass casualty incidents and to prevent further illness Carry out consultations; prescribe the necessary treatment while respecting MSF protocols.
– Providing care to the patient at the earliest stages of the patient journey – available and able to commence paediatric care in the ER and Maternity or OT, directly prior to admission to IPD.
– Collecting and documenting medical history, physical examination and treatment plan. Following up the evolution of the hospitalised patients through daily visits, consultations and examinations, prescribing the necessary investigations and treatments following MSF protocols in collaboration with the nursing team and other medical colleagues.
– Keeping a close communication with the mother and family of the patient, giving accurate information about the patient’s diagnosis, evolution and treatment plan. Ensuring confidentiality is respected and a good attitude is shown to the patients and their families in all circumstances
– Working independently to provide medical assessment and MSF-compliant treatment of patients without supervision.
– Using a clear and structured approach to patients and staff. Practicing organised verbal and written communication as per the departmental system based on MSF protocols.
– Practicing responsible use of drugs, safe paediatric prescribing including of IV drugs and infusions as per the departmental system according to MSF guidelines.
– Practicing good infection prevention control practices adhering fully to MSF IPC rules and principles.
– Collaborating with the different professionals in the hospital to improve patient care, especially nursing staff as well as maternity, OT, RRA and ER staff.
– Participate in the collection of epidemiological data, checking its validity and informing the line manager about any problem or complication of the patient’s illness, medical error.
– Monitor the proper functioning of the ER-department, equipment and material.
– Following up the out-patient consultation for the Ambulatory Therapeutic feeding centre (ATFC)
– Ensuring that the patient’s files are filled accurately, according to MSF standards and requirements. Daily evolution of the patient is properly recorded and available to be read by the whole team. Medical orders are always recorded. All parts of the patient file are properly filled out.
– Constructive participation in learning and teaching to support professional development.
– Involvement in service and quality improvement to maximise the quality of care for all patients and families. Participate in mortality and morbidity review
– Perform any other task within the scope of this role as directed by the supervisor according to the needs of the mission.
– Attending training as required in order to optimize the quality of care

Specific requirements for the role:
– Education: MBChB Certificate from a recognized university
– Experience: minimum 2 years of practical experience in Paediatrics and paediatric emergency qualification is mandatory
– Desirable: 2 years of previous experience with MSF or other International NGO’s
– Languages: Desirable English; Fluency in Arabic
– For applicants with foreign certificates, Iraqi recognised state-diploma is required.
– For applicants registered under DOH Ninewa, a non-objection letter should be provided only if the staff is selected
