Located between beautiful mountain ranges in the safe and dynamic Kurdistan region of Northern Iraq, the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) is an ambitious, independent, nonprofit, liberal arts university that has no owners or shareholders and operates solely for the public benefit.
AUIS promotes high-quality instruction, critical thinking, diversity, and tolerance, in order to secure long-term economic prosperity and social cohesion in Iraq and beyond. During the COVID pandemic, AUIS served as a leading educational benchmark by implementing proactive pedagogical responses and ensuring the continuity of learning without interruption. AUIS takes pride in its collaborative work environment and enjoys tremendous social support by local and regional communities.
We wish to strengthen our team and seek motivated, collegial, student-focused, and culturally sensitive colleagues who are fascinated by the opportunity to make a difference in a demanding but exciting educational environment. In order to accommodate different preferences, we offer visiting positions as well as regular contracts.
The Medical Laboratory Science Department at AUIS invites applications for several Lab Assistant positions.
The ideal candidate exhibits the following characteristics:

The recently formed Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) Department, which is expected to grow into a larger Medical Sciences Department in the near future, offers undergraduate courses leading to a Bachelor of Science degree in MLS. State-of-the-art classrooms, labs, and facilities support the curricula with experienced and student-focused faculty, and by strong links with the community. AUIS graduates are highly sought after by regional and international employers.
AUIS is located in the UNESCO-designated City of Literature Sulaimani, the secure cultural capital of the Kurdish region in Iraq. Founded in 2007 for the public benefit of all Iraq, AUIS is an independent, nonprofit, coeducational, English-speaking liberal arts university. In 2011, AUIS moved to its new 400-acre marble-and-glass campus overlooking historic Sulaimani, a thriving economic center of more than a million residents.
Recently, AUIS introduced a unique dual-degree program with the University of Arizona, ranked #48 nationally and #89 globally by the Center for World University Rankings. For the first time, students from Iraq and the Kurdistan Region are able to receive U.S.-accredited undergraduate engineering degrees while living close to home. Additional majors are in development. Under the agreement, selected faculty are eligible for designation as Global Instructors.
The campus has 50 classrooms, high-tech computer labs, an expansive library, auditoriums, dining facilities, and sports facilities. Our 1,300 students are taught in English by faculty members from approximately 20 different countries; more than 40% of the full-time faculty are from the United States and 30% are from Iraq. The University’s acclaimed preparatory program is the only such program in Iraq to have earned U.S. accreditation (CEA). AUIS graduates have continued their studies at leading universities in the United States and Europe. In addition to the University of Arizona, our collaboration partners include Stanford University, Princeton University, and TIEC, a consortium of top-ranked public universities in Texas.
