General Information on the Mission
Context

 

Première Urgence Internationale (PUI) is a non-governmental, non-profit, non-political and non-religious international aid organisation. PUI has been working in Iraq since 1983. Its core objective is to provide a humanitarian response to the needs arising from population displacements in Iraq, through reinforcement and strengthening of the existing health system, provision of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), and by enhancing access to shelter, drinking Water, Hygiene and Sanitation (WASH). PUI is currently implementing Health, MHPSS, WASH and shelter projects in Federal Iraq and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, through bases in Erbil and Baghdad.

 

In CSI, PUI is currently focusing on an integrated approach in communities, informal sites, schools and health facilities, with a focus on climate change to achieve an impact in the long term.

 

 

 

 

Job description

Overall objectives

The mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) officer will be responsible for the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of MHPSS components of the Abu Ghraib project in close collaboration and guidance from the project manager and the head of base in Baghdad, and health coordinator.

 

 

 

 

 

Responsibilities and scope of duties

 

IMPLEMENTATION AND MONITORING OF MHPSS PROGRAM

 

–         He/she familiarizes him/herself with the project proposal

–         He/she prepares a full schedule that covers all the project period and includes all the details (number of sessions, targeted groups, etc.) of the psychosocial activities mentioned in the project proposal and supporting documents

–         He/she ensures the realization of the implementation schedule, including the logistical needs

–         According to the schedule, he/she facilitates sessions in the field of intervention

–         He/she should familiarize him/herself with the “ I CAN Curriculum “which will be used in the activity’s implementation in the field.

–         He/she ensures proper data collection in terms of PSS sessions, attendance sheets, activity photos and service provision

–         He/she supports in other monitoring and evaluation efforts in collaboration with MEAL department

–         He/she follows up the indicators of MHPSS activities and reports to his/her manager any delays / challenges in reaching the targets that are set in the proposal

 

In all the above-mentioned tasks he/she is supported by the project manager, Head of Base, Health coordinator, logistics and administration.

 

 

QUALITY ASSURANCE OF MHPSS PROJECTS ACTIVITIES AND COMMUNICATION

 

–         He/she proactively participates in relevant team meetings, as requested by the project manager

–         He/she provides follow up the day-to-day progress of activities at the field level

–         He/she establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with relevant partners and other project stakeholders working in the project area

–         He/she supports project manager in communication and collaboration with the community representatives, and the local authorities in the field of activities.

–         He/she ensures documents are recorded and maintained confidentially at all times

–         He/she ensures that confidentiality and consent processes are in place and adhered to

–         He/she assists in the development and implementation of the technical monitoring tools for the project activities.

–         He/she ensures that any logistic processes related to MHPSS activities are conducted according to PUI procedures

–         He/she communicates and coordinates with the staff who responsible for implementation WASH and outreach components of the project

–         He/she is responsible for following up on, and planning for the budget related to the proposed MHPSS activities, planning, and raising PRs whenever needed.

 

 

 

 

HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT (WHEN NEEDED)

 

–         He/she can be requested to support in the recruitment process of the other MHPSS staff in the mission, supported by HR, and project manager.

 

OTHER ACTIVITIES

 

–         He/she supports in minor translation works English-Arabic-English

–         He/she supports the workshops, training, and meetings that hosted as part of the project

–         Other relevant duties as assigned by the line manager

–         He/she participates in needs assessment conducted by PUI

Other Interfaces
 

–  Under the hierarchical and technical management of: Multisectoral Project manager

–  Internal: Head of Programs, Grants and MEAL Manager, Administration and Logistics, HR department, MHPSS technical staff.

–  External: MHPSS actors, local stakeholders, and partner organizations

Required Profile
Required knowledge and skills
REQUIRED DESIRABLE
EDUCATION /TRAINING University degree (at minimum BA level) in social science, nursing, psychology, medicine or other relevant field

 

Psychological first aid

Training of Trainers

Training on PM+ or other low-intensity interventions

Training on gender-based violence, prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse, child protection, safe case identification and referrals

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

At minimum two years of experience in MHPSS service provision in Iraq Experience in monitoring and evaluation of projects Experience in working with an

international NGO

 

 

At minimum one year of experience in MHPSS capacity building

 

Experience of working in the Iraqi public health care, preferably in Anbar

governorate

Experience in protection capacity building
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS – Good communication skills

– Knowledge of local areas and community structures in Anbar (especially in Falluja and Ramadi) and Baghdad (especially Latifiyah and Yousfia).

– Valid driving lisence.

Knowledge of local areas and community structures in Fallujah & Ramadi.
