Project Deputy Lead – Civil

Job Description

Wood is currently looking for a Civil Project Lead to join our team in Basra, Iraq on a 5 weeks on /3 weeks off rotational work.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities 

  • Create delivery excellence across assigned portfolio of small to medium civil/structural projects
  • The projects will mainly cover building new and/or repairing existing roads, bridges, buildings and other type of civil/structural work of non-processing buildings.
  • Provide certainty and confidence to the customer, and robust control of project scope, schedule, cost and risk.
  • Specifies and coordinates the implementation and completion of assigned projects.
  • Fully responsible for the whole projects’ execution and coordinate difference Contractors for the required sources for PROJECT implementation.  responsibility
  • Responsible for safe delivery, ensuring that quality, schedule, and cost targets are met and for managing the associated risk.
  • Responsible for delivery of project to agreed specifications, for managing change and customer relationships, and ensuring appropriate reporting and governance is adhered to and controlled.

Accountabilities

  • Fully in charge of non-processing civil/structural projects implementation assigned to Projects with assistance of Local Construction Lead for the timely completion.
  • Contributes to and reviews the project SOW and plan to determine timeframe, procedures for accomplishing the project and allotment of available resources to various phases of the project. Contributes to setting project evaluation parameters.
  • P & L responsibility with associated commercial and financial accountability including cost estimate, review service proposals, issuing PO with the assistance contract administration staff; overhead management, budget and forecast determination and attainment, risk and opportunity reviews, cost controls etc.
  • Negotiates changes to project scope or specification with the end user/contractors.
  • Follows Change Management process to identify and approve modifications to scope, cost, schedule and quality.
  • Pursue and develop opportunities for innovation, such as new technology use, work share and high value engineering centres, to bring value to customer.
  • Establishes project procedures and leads production of project execution plan including the scope of work, deliverables list, master schedule, budget, org charts, risk register etc.
  • Regularly reports project progress to senior management and/or the customer.
  • Responsible for delivery of agreed schedule and financial performance, proactively intervening to avoid slippage
  • Ensures competence of project team members to carry out assigned work
  • Leads ongoing focus on risk identification and mitigation during project execution
  • Responsible for the project HSSE leadership, ensures a program of initiatives and auditing schedule are established and that HSSE and quality management issues are proactively addressed
  • Guides and directs a project team, which may include external specialists and involve staff from multiple offices and sites
  • Responsible for ensuring project team members are competent to carry out assigned duties

Qualifications

Key Accountabilities: 

  • Minimum BSc/BEng Level degree in civil engineering with extensive experience
  • Degree qualified with Association for Project Management Practitioner or equivalent professional project management qualification
  • Advanced computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft office tools, Word / Excel / PowerPoint, to advanced template creation and document / data management level

EXPERIENCE: 

  • Minimum of 12 years project management experience on civil/structural projects or similar nature
  • Middle East Onshore Brownfield Experience, especially Iraq, would be an advantage.

JOB-SPECIFIC SKILLS: 

  • A solid understanding of project/cost controls and project management tools and practices
  • A solid grasp of civil engineering technique and site construction planning/management
  • Businessperson – good understanding of finance and strong commercial acumen
  • Able to consistently apply WOOD and client standards, processes, and procedures, including contract start-up process
  • Excellent leadership and people skills; culturally aware for regional working.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and ability to mentor
