Overview

Un Ponte Per (UPP) is an NGO established in 1991. It has started its activities as “Un ponte per Baghdad”, right after the end of the war in Iraq, with the aim of organizing solidarity initiatives in favor of the Iraqi civil society. Later on, the intervention of Un Ponte Per started including Serbia and other Middle Eastern and Mediterranean countries. The NGO mission is to prevent new conflicts, protect human rights and support civil society, especially in the Middle East, through humanitarian and development programs, always supporting the local civil society. UPP is active in Iraq since 1991 and is regularly registered at the National and Kurdistan Region levels.

The Project

Women for Democracy is a project funded by Netherlands’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs and implemented by Un Ponte Per, PAX, Information Center, and Tammuz Organization in consortia. The project aims at strengthening women’s political participation in Iraq.

Job Description

UPP is seeking a Project Manager, who will work under the direct supervision of the  Head of Programs –Iraq, to manage the project and ensure smooth implementation of the activities to reach its outputs and ensure the achievement of planned outcomes of the project through managing the workplan, coordination with the partners, supervising the team, and reporting effectively.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize and implement all the operational activities related to the project, as described in project proposal.
  • Select and manage project human resources together with Head of Office, Country Director or Head of Mission (according to staff handbook indications). Approve annual leave, schedule, grievance of project staff. Ensure new project staff receives proper induction when hired.
  • Supervise all the project staff during project implementation.
  • Supervise and support local admin, and make decisions on adjustments of overall financial management.
  • Signatory power.
  • Support and supervise local visibility and project media officer; ensure flow of information with communication department at HQ.
  • Manage and liaise with project partners and when necessary, with the donor.
  • Supervise data collected by local M&E, propose and elaborate documents for internal M&E.
  • Focus on qualitative and quantitative aspects of and/or in the reporting and monitoring for programme.
  • Supervise on Policies Compliance in the project.
  • Collect and evaluate incident reporting and in case address them to country management or HR in Italy.
  • Manage movements and requests in collaboration with the security manager.
  • Manages monthly reporting for donor, as well as final narrative report. Check all financial reports, and support project admin in the preparation of final reporting to the donor, as well as in preparation of documents for the audits.
  • Coordinate with the Finance manager and HQ Rome Admin Department regarding all administrative issues (ordinary expenses, management of micro-grants, financial reporting, allocation of expenses, budget revision).
  • Be responsible for the proper, transparent, and correct management of project resources (financial, human, and material) as per the project document.
  • Attend monthly relevant Cluster meetings, according to the sector of the project, as well as internal coordination meetings (Project Managers meeting, Security Briefings) as long as they are within the agreed timely frames.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENT : 

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Masters degrees in administration and management or related fields
  • At least 5 years experience with international or national civil society organizations or UN agencies in project management, monitoring and evaluation, or grants management

Knowledge: 

  • Has very good knowledge of civil society context, activism, women peace and security agenda 1325
  • Has good understanding of administration and financial requirements
  • Professional writing skills
  • Excellent in using Microsoft tools (Word, PPT, Excel, etc)
  • Very flexible and experienced in managing conflicts
  • Very good team building and team leading skills
  • Confident public speaker
  • Capable for creating connections and maintaining good relation with stakeholders
  • Being punctual to appointments and meeting the deadlines
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills.
  • Self-reliant and able to work independently.
  • Literacy in Microsoft Office Programs.
  • Personal integrity and credibility
  • Report writing
  • Data elaboration skills.
  • Good time management and organizational skills
  • Patient, adaptable, flexible, able to improvise and remain responsive, and communicate clearly and effectively under pressure.
