Job Overview

Purpose/objective of the position:
The Child Protection Officer is responsible for coordinating the successful implementation of the protection activities and to directly manage and supervise the protection team (case manager, case workers, PSS workers,) under the direct supervision of Protection Manager/Deputy Protection Manager. S/he will ensure that training and capacity building needs of field protection staff are timely addressed and that the protection services and activities meet quality standards in the sector.

Reporting to:
Hierarchical: Project Manager.
Technical: Protection Manager/Deputy Protection Manager

• Manage and directly supervise the protection team composed by 2 case manager, 6 case workers, 6 PSS workers, in coordination with the Case Management Officer;
• Cooperate in the recruitment and selection of the protection team staff;
• Provide technical guidance and support to protection staff, ensuring quality in the implementation of activities and services as well as the adherence to protection standards;
• Regularly verify the status of the case management database, conduct case reviews and provide feedback to Case Managers and Workers;
• Organize regular and ad hoc case management meetings with Case Managers, to discuss complex cases and general challenges in their tasks;
• Conduct regular case audits, to ensure that cases meet and maintain compliance with established SoPs and minimum standards in case management;
• Review data and information collected and compile regular protection reports highlighting gaps, concerns and trends to inform future programming;
• Coordinate and supervise psychosocial support activities that are conducted in the;
• Provide advices to Community Mobilizers in the planning and implementation of participatory community activities, awareness sessions and campaigns and in the general communication with communities;
• Identify capacity building needs of protection staff assessing their knowledge and skills and accordingly provide learning opportunities through training, workshops and/or simulation exercises;

Specific Duties:
• Prepare the material and deliver trainings on child protection and PSS;
• Ensure quality implementation and achievements of results related to Protection activities;
• Conduct field visits to supervise the activities in field according to planned schedules as well as ad hoc according to needs;
• Assist in the management of the resources of the project;
• Ensure adherence to INTERSOS and donor’s administrative rules and regulations;
• Ensure adherence to INTERSOS administrative rules and regulations;
• Ensure all monitoring activities are fully documented, including systematic and timely data collection and guarantee the data entry on regular basis as per the standard monitoring formats and in coordination with INTERSOS MEAL Department;
• Monitor results’ achievement against indicators;
• Provide monthly report to the Project Manager providing updates on the activities of the overall project and highlighting challenges and solutions;
• Support the PM in strengthening the local network, authorities and other NGOs/Agencies, specifically in the area of operations
• Participate in trainings and workshops on protection -related topics and other capacity building activities according to the project needs and requests from the Project Manager and the Protection Manager/Deputy Protection Manager;
• Represent INTERSOS in meeting and working group as required by the Project Manager;
• Establish and maintain positive working relations with authorities and relevant stakeholders in the community to ensure cooperation and success of project implementation;
• Perform any other task not here listed and necessary for the implementation of the project activities or the mission program as requested by the Project Manager.

• Minimum 3 years of relevant previous experience in similar position with INGOs in the protection sector (of which at least 1 year in a supervisory role);
• University degree in Social Science, Psychology and/or similar;
• Computer literacy (Word, Excel, Power Point)
• Good leadership skills
• Strong technical knowledge in general protection (i.e. protection monitoring, case management, psychosocial support activities)
• Respect and non-discriminatory attitude
• Strong understanding of the Iraq crisis impact on the population and especially on children.
• Adherence to humanitarian principles and code of conduct, in line with INTERSOS’ principles, values and regulations;
• Fluency in Arabic and English is mandatory;
• Ability and willingness to travel across the assigned project areas (Tikrit, Baiji and Shirqat districts) at short notice and spend extended periods with communities;
• Previous experience in developing material for training and/ or child protection interventions;
• Ability to work independently and under pressure;
• Strong diplomatic, interpersonal, listening and communication skills;
• Basic knowledge of Turkmen
