Background:

Better World Organization for Community Development is a humanitarian and non-governmental organization established on 24th May 2017 in Kurdistan/Iraq. Independent and non-profit that works to advocate for peace and coexistence in the community and improve the social, psychosocial, and economic situation of people. The organization focuses on women through projects that ensure protection and empowerment for them.

Under the direct supervision of the (Project Manager), the (Psychologist) will perform the following duties and responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide Individual Psychological Support for GBV survivors.
  2. Provide therapy sessions to individual survivors of GBV who have been identified for a specialized service, and who have been referred by social workers and/ or other stakeholders.
  3. Conduct psychological assessments, including assessment of mental health states, suicide risk assessments, and bio-psycho-social.
  4. Plan and implement appropriate therapeutic interventions (individual and/or group) utilizing appropriate and evidence-based interventions.
  5. Evaluate the outcomes of interventions and satisfaction surveys.
  6. Provide psychoeducational support sessions to the survivor`s family members (if needed).
  7. Conduct home-to-home visits (if needed) for at-risk GBV survivors.
  8. Support to Women’s Safe Space
  9. Support Social workers and volunteer in designing, recruiting participants for, and leading peer support groups of GBV survivors.
  10. Support and keep up-to-date a map of existing services to which women, girls, families, and other survivors can be referred. Also, link the severe GBV cases with the psychiatrist (when needed).
  11. As needed, support volunteers and social workers in conducting family visits to provide additional assessments and support.
  12. Submit monthly reports to the GBV center manager that summarize clinical findings and trends, progress summaries, referral activities, and indicators.
  13. Carry out other tasks as assigned by the line manager as required.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • University degree in psychology, counseling, and at least two years of relevant area work experience.
  • Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of multiple current research and evidence-based practices as the culture and needs of the clients vary.
  • Written & verbal proficiency in Arabic language and English
  • Good understanding of the local context, especially of the IDP/Returnees situation in Iraq.
  • Understanding of core humanitarian Standards, especially protection concepts & approaches.
  • Good interpersonal skills, good communication, organizational & analytical skills, and the ability to work well in a team.
  • Familiarity of monitoring & evaluation (M&E) instruments & documents is preferable.
  • Ability to travel independently, including to rural communities.
  • Ability to multitask, handle pressure, improvise, and be a good team player.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
