Overall purpose

 

The Psychologist works within the Première Urgence Internationale’s project in Anbar informal camp settlement. The beneficiaries are internally displaced people of whom around half are under 18 years old.  The psychologist is focused on provision of targeted mental health services. He/she develops individualized treatment plans, conducts focused individual or group treatment sessions, contributes to the community-level psychosocial support activities (like awareness raising and parenting skills coaching), supports the psychosocial workers in running the community centers, contributes to the training of the community volunteers and makes referrals. He/she contributes to data collection.

 

Responsibilities and scope of duties

Specific goals and related activities

 

  1. PROVIDE TARGETED MENTAL HEALTH CARE SERVICES
  • Conduct mental status assessment to identified beneficiaries (both adults and children)
  • Develop individualized treatment plans that are based on the assessment and active participation of the beneficiary
  • Conduct individual / group treatments according to the treatment plans and PUI guidelines in the community centers which are established in tents
  • Assess the impact of the treatment on the beneficiary on regular basis
  • Make needed adjustments to the treatment plan according to the impact assessment and beneficiary feedback
  • Record needed information to patient file carefully and accurately
  • Refer beneficiaries to advanced services (both secondary health care and other services) when needed
  • Follow-up the referred cases
  • Work in coordination with other organization providing MHPSS services
  • Conduct all actions with high level of professionalism (confidentiality and ethics included)

 

  1. CONTRIBUTE TO SUCCESFUL RUNNING OF THE COMMUNITY CENTER
  • Participate in advocacy with the community leaders
  • Participate in setting up and equipping the community center / the mobile community center
  • Collaborate with other actors in the camp
  • Mainstream of protection throughout all actions
  • Participate in scheduling the activities in the community center
  • Maintain good order in the community center
  • Ensure high level of confidentiality and ethics throughout the actions
  • Observe and evaluate the activities on daily basis and providing feedback and suggestions for improvement to the Line manager
  • Participate and plan the closure event / handover ceremony of the community center

 

  1. PARTICIPATE IN PROVIDING PSYCHOSOCIAL INTERVENTIONS IN THE COMMUNITY CENTER
  • Participate in conducting parenting skills coaching sessions
  • Participate in conducting Children’s Resilience Program
  • Participate in conducting stress management sessions
  • Support in establishing peer support groups
  • Identify beneficiaries who need more advanced, targeted support and arranging the needed support in collaboration with the other team

 

  1. TRAINING
  • Train the community volunteers and PHC staff in basic MHPSS and protection and providing them supervision and support
  • Support the psychosocial workers
  • Contribute to PUI’s internal capacity building or trainings / workshops that PUI arranges for other stakeholders, according to the specific skills of the psychologist
  • Contribute to trainings/workshops that are provided to other organizations or other Première Urgence Internationale’s projects about MHPSS

 

  1. PARTICIPATE IN DATA COLLECTION AND REPORTING
  • Record the beneficiary and activity data accurately according to the guidelines
  • Contribute to the MHPSS statistic reports and reports to the donors
  • Follow-up the referrals
  1. MEETINGS/COORDINATION

 

  • Debrief daily with the team members
  • Be an active and responsible member of the team
  • Coordinate activities with IMC and other actors in the camp
  • Attend Première Urgence Internationale’s internal team meeting
  • Collaborate with other organizations involved in health, water, sanitation, and nutrition in the project area

 

  1. OTHER DUTIES
  • Be aware of the security rules and social and political situation in the field at any time and provide feedback to the Line Manager
  • Any other work duties requested by Line Manager .

 

Required knowledge and skills

Education / Training

 

  •   BA degree in psychology or related field
  •   MA degree
  •   Training in community or public health
  •   Training in CBT-based focused interventions
  •   Training on Thinking Healthy –intervention
  •   Training on Children’s Resilience Program

 

 
Professional experience
  •   At minimum two (2) years of clinical practice in mental health care

 

  •   Experience in community or public health
  •   Experience in Children’s Resilience Program
  •   Experience in stress management and parenting skills coaching
  •   Experience in working with a NGO
  •   Experience with Première Urgence Internationale
  •   Experience in running volunteer programs
  •   Experience in working with children
  •   Experience in providing perinatal mental health care
 
Knowledge and skills

 

 

  •   Good writtten and verbal communication skills
  •   Understanding of the Iraqi society and health care system
  •   Ability to work in unstable circumstances
  •   IT skills, particularly data analysis and presentation (Excel)
