Overall purpose

 The Psychosocial (PSS) worker works within the Première Urgence Internationale’s project in Alanbar informal camp settlement. The beneficiaries are internally displaced people of whom around half are under 18 years old. The PSS worker is focused on provision of psychosocial services, according to the work plan and identified needs. He/she is responsible for running a community center, providing open-to-all psychosocial interventions and training and supporting the community volunteers. S/he also administrates and follows-up referrals to the services of the advance mental health care and other services.

 

Responsibilities and scope of duties

  •  Ensure successful running of the community center
  •  Empower and build the capacity of the community volunteers
  •  Provide psychosocial interventions
  •  Assist in providing mental health interventions
  •  Participate in data collection data and reporting
  •  Networking with the other actors.

 

Specific goals and related activities

 

  1. ENSURE SUCCESSFUL RUNNING OF THE COMMUNITY CENTER

 

  • Participate in advocacy with the community leaders
  • Set up and equip the community center / the mobile community center
  • Participate in selecting the service providers for the needs of the community center
  • Advertise the community center in the community
  • Collaborate with other actors in the camp
  • Take care of the everyday supplies and logistics, including set up of a tent in Anbar.
  • Take care of the information, education and communication materials in the community center · Mainstream protection throughout all actions
  • Be an active and responsible member of the team
  • Schedule the activities in the community center
  • Maintain good order in the community center
  • Take care of high level of confidentiality and ethics throughout the actions
  • Observe and evaluate the activities on daily basis and providing feedback and suggestions for improvement to the Line Manager
  • Participate and plan the closure event / handover ceremony of the community center

 

  1. EMPOWER AND BUILD THE CAPACITY OF COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS
  • Participate in community outreach and identification of community members interested in volunteer activities
  • Participate in selection of community volunteers
  • Participate in conducting MHPSS training to community volunteers
  • Motivate and involve community volunteers closely to the activities of the community center
  • Supervise community volunteers
  • Plan with the community volunteers how to continue community based PSS after the project

 

  1. PROVIDE PSYCHOSOCIAL INTERVENTIONS WITHIN THE COMMUNITY CENTER
  • Conduct parenting skills coaching sessions
  • Conduct Children’s Resilience Program
  • Conduct stress management sessions
  • Conduct physical activity session for different gender and age groups
  • Conduct peer support groups
  • Advertise the psychosocial support interventions
  • Identify beneficiaries who need more advanced, targeted support and arranging the needed support in collaboration with the other team
  • Map the available referral pathways for livelihood, protection and cash assistance services

 

  1. ASSIST IN PROVIDING MENTAL HEALTH INTERVENTIONS
  • Assist psychologist in providing targeted group interventions
  • Support management of the emergency and elective referral cases according to the referral protocol
  • Support follow up of the referred cases

 

  1. PARTICIPATE IN DATA COLLECTION AND REPORTING
  • Record the beneficiary and activity data accurately according to the guidelines
  • Contribute to the weekly MHPSS statistic reports
  1. MEETINGS/COORDINATION
  • Debrief daily with the team members
  • Coordinate activities with IMC and other actors in the camp
  • Attend Première Urgence Internationale internal team meeting
  • Collaborate with other organizations involved in health, water, sanitation, and nutrition in the project area
  1. OTHER DUTIES
  • Be aware of the security rules and social and political situation in the field at any time and provide feedback to the Deputy of Project Manager
  • Any other work duties requested by Line Manager

 

Required knowledge and skills

Education / Training

 

  •  At minimum BA degree in field of social work, psychology, or related field
  •  Training in community or public health
  •  Training in Children’s Resilience Program
Professional experience
  •    Two years practise in provising MHPSS services
  •  Experience of working with children and families
  •  Experience in using Kobo base data collection
  •  Experience in conducting structured, manualized MHPSS interventions
  •  Experience in community or public health
  •  Experience in Children’s Resilience Program
  •  Experience in stress management and parenting skills coaching
  •  Experience in working with a NGO
  •  Experience with Première Urgence Internationale
  •  Experience in running physical exercises especially for women, children and youth
  •  Experience in running volunteer programs
  •  Experience in organizing peer support
Knowledge and skills

 

 

  •   Good communication and analytical skills
  •  Understanding of the Iraq medical system, and with reference to services available at different types of facility and the referral system
  •  Ability to work in unstable circumstances
  •  IT skills, particularly data analysis and presentation (Excel)
