Jiyan Foundation for Human Rights is seeking applicants for the position of Coalition for Just Reparations (C4JR) Public relations/communications officer at a location in Erbil, Iraq, to create and implement communications strategies that further C4JR goals.


Position Public Relations Coordinator
Status full-time employee (1.12.2022 – 30.09. 2024) with the possibility of an extension
Based Erbil
Reports to Head of C4JR Secretariat/Head of Jiyan Foundation´s Program for Rights and Justice, Head of Fundraising and PR, Project Coordinator and Center Manager
Required degree Journalism, communications, law or other social sciences degree
Required experience No less than one year of experience in the field of public relations, advocacy etc.



  1. Supports and promotes C4JR goals, through message development, collaboration with conventional media and media outreach;
  2. Serves as the first port of call for all C4JR related media inquiries;
  3. Provides up-to-date, relevant and precise information about C4JR mission, members and activities ;
  4. Designs and implements advocacy campaigns promoting the C4JR;
  5. Works closely with C4JR Secretariat, Coordinating Committee and Survivors Council;
  6. Drafts Op-eds, articles and short media pieces about C4JR activities. Provides interviews and statements, moderates C4JR events;
  7. Filters media queries with the aim of shielding survivors from unethical and harmful practices to ensure their physical and mental wellbeing
  8. Obtains input from, cooperates and consults C4JR bodies and members;
  9. Communicates with the media outlets in and outside Iraq;
  10. Further develops and updates C4JR website;
  11. Designs printed and multimedia materials etc.;
  12. Cooperates with the PR departments of relevant national and national stakeholders, including GoI, KRG, UN etc.;
  13. Carries out other related tasks;


  1. Fluent in Kurdish, and Arabic and an excellent command of the English language;
  2. Degree in journalism, communications, law or other social sciences degree;
  3. A minimum of one year experience in managing public relations, designing and implementing advocacy activities and campaigns;
  4. Outstanding English is written and verbal communication skills;
  5. Experience drafting Press Releases and communicating with the press;
  6. Basic knowledge of civil society organizations in Iraq and international human rights;
  7. Strong understanding of the Iraqi and KRI media landscape;
  8. Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team, and cooperation with C4JR members and external partners;
  9. Ability to work independently and provide reports within a tight timeframe;
  10. Active interest in promoting human rights and social justice; awareness of current events both nationally and internationally.


  1. Participation in staff-to-staff training as well as seminars with external trainers;
  2. Access to a special library with a large collection of literature on human rights, torture, mental and physical health etc., for self-study;
  3. Paid holidays (24 days for the full-time position) plus 15 statutory holidays. Additional paid holidays, especially on the occasion of religious festivals, may be agreed upon;
  4. Voluntary pension scheme with employer contributions;
