Job Overview

  • Supervision and receiving clinical samples, identifying them, and safely storing samples to be tested.
  • Supervision and performing tests needed for the analysis, results recording, and reporting.
  • Ensuring the performance of daily QC testing, equipment calibration, and reporting. Collecting and analyzing monthly QC data and submitting it to the Quality Assurance Coordinator and Operations Manager.
  • Ensuring compliance with good work practices in accordance with the standards of the College of American Pathologists (CAP).
  • Complete knowledge of the technical and safety SOPs and policies and ensuring their implementation and monitoring of junior staff.
    Responsible for staff performance and training needs assessment.
  • Responsible for the scheduled preventive maintenance of the instruments according to the manufacturer’s instructions and for informing the Laboratory QAC of any inquiries.
  • Always aware and in contact with the section staff for any issues and reporting any unusual issues to the Operations Manager.
  • Able to provide comprehensive training and competency assessments for staff in the section.
  • Responsible for creating the monthly staff duty rota and submitting it to the Operations Manager.
  • Monitoring the workflow in the section and maintaining close coordination with staff during routine operations and holidays.
  • Coordinating with the Laboratory QAC to clarify and approve overtimes and leaves.
  • Liaising regularly with senior staff both inside and outside the department regarding any ongoing or emerging issues that may affect laboratory performance or patient care.
  • Reviewing, revising, and updating the section’s technical SOPs and CAP checklist in close coordination with the QAC.
  • Managing the section’s supply chain to ensure the availability of kits, reagents, and consumables, removing expired items, and reporting to the Stock Officer.
  • Monthly forecasting, creating monthly supplies orders, and wastage reports.
  • Preparing and monitoring management and operational performance data, such as turnaround times, workload, and materials consumption, on a monthly basis.
  • Responsible for the section’s incident reporting, including result delays, their causes, and actions, and coordinating with the Laboratory QAC.
  • Supervising and managing the investigation of root causes of process failures and incorrect results.
  • Ensuring that, in the case of the senior being on leave, the daily rota will not be affected, and the Laboratory QAC or Operations Manager must be informed.
  • Performing any other tasks assigned by the Operations Manager.
