Job Overview
We are looking for a Senior Programme Officer within the Eurasia and North Africa Team. They will have an initial focus on supporting our programme in South Iraq.
In collaboration with the Programme Director, the Senior Programme Officer will oversee a portfolio of partner organisations in Iraq, focusing on strengthening organisational and programmatic capacity, identifying new partners, and supporting the effective design, resourcing, and monitoring of partner projects. Key responsibilities include integrating climate change into Tearfund’s projects across economic and environmental sustainability, disaster risk reduction, and climate-resilient livelihoods. Additionally, the role will provide technical support to Tearfund Iraq and its partners, enhance peacebuilding capacity, ensure quality programmatic evidence, and represent Tearfund at relevant forums to advance its country strategy in Iraq.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Degree and/or equivalent in a relevant field such as social sciences or development studies; or equivalent level of professional experience and competence.
- Experience of working in a humanitarian and development context with institutional donors such as USAID, MOFAs, GIZ, Pooled Fund, GAC, etc
- Experience in DRR and Livelihood in a similar position is required.
- Experience in implementing Disaster Risk Reduction/Management projects at community level/ Project management experience.
- Ability in capacity development of local partner organisations.
- Ability to build rapport and engage with churches and/or church-based organisations
- Ability in project cycle management and evaluation, and in budget development and management
- Implementing and working in accordance with corporate structures, policies and practices.
- Experience in delivering training or mentoring others in good programme practice.
The candidate will also demonstrate excellent communication skills in both Arabic and English and be a strong negotiator and problem solver with ability to make sound judgment. Also have a strong presentation, training skills, organisational and administrative skills and good IT skills.
