Wood is looking to hire a Senior Wells Contracting Advisor on a 4 Weeks on / 4 Weeks Off Rotation to be based in Basra, Iraq

Responsibilities

  • Develop and analyze competitive bid tenders while coaching junior team members on tendering to meet client objectives.
  • Must be able to work strategically to focus on future activity readiness plus multiple cost and schedule scenarios.
  • Work closely with the D&WW Manager, Engineering Manager, Operations Superintendent, Subsurface Geology, Reservoir, Production team cost and planning personnel as well as Well Work engineers to ensure proper cost estimating and long lead equipment planning for current and future years Work Plans and Budgets.
  • Work with cost analyst to support accurate well cost estimation and planning requirement for current and future Work Plans and Budgets.
  • Must know the operating and technical characteristics of all components in the drilling process or systems and must be knowledgeable about alternative systems and procedures that might be implemented to improve operational efficiency.
  • Coordinate with the Drilling Surveillance Engineer to monitor ongoing rig operations, track material inventory, and update forecasts.
  • Support the Drilling Surveillance Engineer in tubular and wellhead forecasting, budget preparation, and cost estimation as required.
  • Take a lead role in special drilling technical studies, supporting field development studies and planning.
  • Represent the Drilling team in well start meetings with Well Work, Subsurface Geology, Reservoir, and Production Operations teams, focusing on scheduling upcoming wells (3–6 months horizon) and reporting outcomes to the D&WW Engineering Manager and Operations Superintendent.
  • Identify, anticipate, and communicate potential drilling challenges or issues that may impact cost and schedule plans, reporting promptly to the D&WW Engineering Manager, Operations Superintendent or Manager.
  • Work closely with Iraqi secondees, organizing and participating in technical sessions as directed by the D&WW Engineering Manager.
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and Iraqi team members to support their professional development

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Engineering, preferably in Petroleum, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience, with 10 years in drilling.
  • Sound knowledge of integrated project management skills across multiple functional teams.
  • Preferred experience in Contracts, Drilling Engineering, or Drilling Operations within the Middle East.
  • Proven experience in organizing tenders for drilling and WellWork equipment and services.
  • Expertise in planning and managing annual project budgets effectively.
  • Strong commitment to safety in well planning and program execution.
  • Results-oriented mindset, with a willingness to put in the necessary effort to achieve objectives, regardless of challenges.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to set, monitor, and adhere to schedules while staying focused on tasks.
  • Must have a continuous improvement mindset, willing to push technology and innovation to reduce cost /add value to processes.
  • Analytical/problem solving skills.
  • Self-starter with high initiative and required minimum supervision.
  • Must have very good English communication skills.
  • Able to function in a team environment. Have strong interpersonal skills with great flexibility.
  • Must be culture-sensitive and able to work in a multi-cultural environment.
