VACANCY: Social Worker (Mental Health and Psycho-Social Support)

 

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is a neutral and independent international humanitarian organization, which assists and protects victims of armed conflicts and other situations of violence. The ICRC is currently looking for staff for its operations in Iraq.

Job Title: Social Worker (Mental Health and Psycho-Social Support)

Level: B2

Duty Station: Iraq – Mosul Sub-Delegation

Reports to: Mental Health and Psycho-Social Support (MHPSS) Delegate

Duration of Contract: 1-year fixed term contract (with the possibility of renewal based on delegation needs and performance and budget availability).

Objective:

 

The term ‘mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) describes a wide range of activities undertaken by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), to address the psychosocial, psychological, and psychiatric consequences caused or exacerbated by conflicts.

The MHPSS ICRC program for people affected by violence and war conflict in Iraq aims to respond to the MHPSS needs of the survivors (victims of violence and families of missing). The ICRC focuses on strengthening community-based interventions, that constitute a key entry point to identify, assess and address invisible mental health needs. The aim is to build the local capacity to enable key stakeholders to provide quality individual and group psychological support, counseling services, and awareness sessions to the affected population, with constant supervision.

 

Main duties and responsibilities:

 

  • Organizes and participates in workshops/training related to access to services for vulnerable groups, inclusion for people with disabilities, integration into the community for victims of violence, and other relevant subjects.
  • Trains Primary Health Care (PHC) professionals, community volunteers, and/or external actors.
  • Supervises and supports the trained PHC professionals and community actors to consolidate the knowledge and skills gained during training through regular visits, case discussions, accompaniment, and observation visits.
  • Manages and trains staff under his/her responsibility.
  • Ensures appropriate management of information collected and produces the respective reports.
  • Helps organize meetings; advises other staff members about his/her field of activities.
  • Complying with ICRC standards, sets up culturally and context-appropriate monitoring and evaluation tools, and ensures regular data collection and reporting.
  • Attends Mental Health cluster meetings and any other meetings required to inform, coordinate, collaborate, or promote ICRC MHPSS activities with other humanitarian actors and the Directorate of Health (DoH).
  • Develops and maintains contacts with health authorities, academia, technical advisers from other organizations, etc. as necessary”.
  • Identifies and maps social-inclusion/service-access networks, conducts stakeholder analyses, and keeps regular contact with community representatives and relevant organizations.
  • Actively participates in the identification of needs and target populations for MHPSS interventions.
  • Identifies gaps in the competencies and training needs of the target population.
  • Organizes referral of beneficiaries and performs case follow-up.

 

Education and Professional Experience required:

 

  • A University degree in Social Sciences, Psychology, or 5 years of experience in the same field.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in MHPSS programs.
  • Experience in training, capacity building, and clinical supervision.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively, Flexibility to do overnight field trips.
  • Highly developed analytical, planning, writing, communication, and organizing skills.
  • Fluent command in English and Arabic, Kurdish (Kurmanji) is an asset.
  • Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office).
