Position Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced and qualified Subject Matter Expert (SME) in NDT/Welding to provide technical expertise and leadership in the Oil & Gas, Renewables, and Construction sectors. The SME will ensure that all welding and non-destructive testing (NDT) activities adhere to international standards, project specifications, and safety requirements. This role will be based in Basra, Iraq, and involves collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the success of projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert guidance and technical oversight on welding and NDT processes, procedures, and standards.
- Review and approve welding procedures (WPS), procedure qualification records (PQR), and welder qualification tests (WQT).
- Oversee NDT activities, including visual inspections, radiographic testing (RT), ultrasonic testing (UT), magnetic particle testing (MT), and dye penetrant testing (PT).
- Conduct quality assurance checks on welding and NDT processes to ensure compliance with project requirements and international codes (ASME, API, AWS, ISO).
- Support project teams in resolving technical issues related to welding and NDT activities.
- Collaborate with construction, engineering, and quality control teams to develop and implement project-specific welding and NDT plans.
- Conduct audits and inspections of welding and NDT operations on-site and ensure adherence to HSE standards.
- Train and mentor welding and NDT personnel to maintain high levels of competency and performance.
- Prepare detailed reports, including findings, recommendations, and corrective actions.
- Stay updated on advancements in welding and NDT technologies and standards, applying them to improve project outcomes.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- Certifications:
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or equivalent.
- ASNT Level II/III in relevant NDT methods (RT, UT, MT, PT).
- Experience:
- Minimum 10-15 years of experience in welding and NDT within Oil & Gas, Renewables, or Construction industries.
- Strong knowledge of international codes and standards (ASME, API, AWS, ISO).
- Proven track record of working on large-scale projects in challenging environments, preferably in Iraq or similar regions.
- Skills:
- Expertise in advanced welding techniques and NDT methodologies.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural, multidisciplinary team environment.
- Proficiency in preparing technical reports and documentation.
