Wood is recruiting for a Water Injection Engineer (Local National) to join its Iraq Business Unit to Lead and oversee water treatment and water injection operations to ensure safe, efficient, and environmentally production activities within the client site.

This role is onsite in Basra, Iraq with Travel Requirement.

Rotation: 5 days on 2 days off

Key Objectives

  • Lead and oversee water treatment and water injection operations to ensure safe, efficient, and environmentally production activities within the client site.
  • Provide technical guidance, supervisory oversight, and day-to-day management of water treatment facilities (MOD300 water treatment plant, Euphrates water intake station, produced water handling) and water injection systems (HPI, ESP wells, water injection wells).
  • Ensure water quality and system reliability meet reservoir injection requirements, safety standards, and operational targets.
  • Visibly supervise and guide local operators, ensuring safe, stable, efficient, and reliable water treatment and injection processes.
  • Oversee daily operations of the MOD300 water treatment plant, produced water systems, HPI units, and water injection wells, maintaining performance within safe operating limits.
  • Monitor critical water quality parameters (e.g., pH, turbidity, salinity, total dissolved solids, suspended solids, etc.) and ensure that treated water meets injection specifications.
  • Implement necessary chemical dosing programs and coordinate with laboratory personnel to perform water sampling and analyses.
  • Troubleshoot operational upsets, process irregularities, and system failures to minimize downtime.
  • Supervise machinery startup/shutdown in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs), both in the field and on DCS systems.
  • Apply and continuously improve detailed, unit-specific startup, shutdown, and emergency response procedures for water treatment and injection facilities.
  • Capture and document lessons learned to enhance operational efficiency and safety.
  • Actively mentor local national operators in water treatment and injection facilities, developing their technical competencies and operational awareness.
  • Provide timely reports and updates on facility performance, incidents, and ongoing improvement initiatives

  • Demonstrate assertiveness to intervene in unsafe practices, recognize hazards, and enforce corrective actions.
  • Maintain reliable, stable, and optimized water treatment and injection processes to support production targets.
  • Set and communicate clear performance expectations, holding the team accountable for achieving operational objectives.
  • Provide clear feedback and instructions to superintendents, supervisors, and cross-functional teams, whether face-to-face or via radio.

Expected:

  • Minimum of 5–10 years of experience in Oil & Gas Process Operations with a focus on water treatment and/or water injection.
  • Strong operational troubleshooting and supervisory skills, particularly in large-scale water treatment and injection facilities.
  • Degree or diploma in Chemical/Mechanical/Petroleum Engineering or a related field preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
