Job Overview

Overview: An Accountant is responsible for managing financial records, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations. This position plays a crucial role in maintaining accurate financial information and supporting decision-making processes within an organization.

Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements. Ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
  2. Bookkeeping: Maintain general ledger accounts by recording transactions, reconciling balances, and verifying accuracy. This may involve data entry, journal entries, and adjustments.
  3. Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in preparing budgets, forecasts, and financial plans. Monitor variances between actual and budgeted expenses and revenues, and provide explanations as needed.
  4. Tax Compliance: Prepare and file tax returns, including income tax, sales tax, and payroll tax. Stay updated on tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance and minimize tax liabilities.
  5. Financial Analysis: Conduct financial analysis to assess profitability, liquidity, and solvency. Identify trends, risks, and opportunities, and provide recommendations for improvement.
  6. Auditing: Assist with internal and external audits by providing documentation, explanations, and support as required. Ensure that audit findings are addressed promptly and accurately.
  7. Accounts Payable and Receivable: Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including invoicing, billing, collections, and payments. Monitor aging reports and follow up on overdue accounts.
  8. Cost Accounting: Analyze costs and expenses to identify areas for cost reduction and process improvement. Calculate and allocate overhead costs to products or services.
  9. Financial Controls: Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets, ensure accuracy of financial records, and prevent fraud. Monitor compliance with policies and procedures.
  10. Financial Software: Utilize accounting software systems to record transactions, generate reports, and perform analysis. Ensure that software is updated and used efficiently.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA designation is a plus.
  • Proven experience in accounting or finance roles, with knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements and compliance standards.
  • Time management and organizational skills to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks.
