OVERVIEW
Jiyan Foundation for Human Rights is a charitable organization supporting survivors of human rights violations, defending fundamental freedoms, and promoting democratic values throughout the world. Our programs provide mental health, medical treatment, and other support services to survivors of trauma, terror, domestic violence, and human rights violations.
We are seeking applications for the following position:
Position: Communications and Content Specialist
Status: Fee contract (Consultancy)
Based: Remote/Hybrid
Reports to: Head of Program for Rights and Justice, Head of Public Relations, Project Coordinator
Required Degree: University degree or equivalent experience in journalism, media, communications, or a similar discipline.
Application Deadline: December 31st 2024
Starting Date: January 20th 2024
Contract Duration: 75 working days (5 days per month, totaling 40 working hours) from January 20, 2025, to March 31, 2026
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
● Develop and lead the creation of high-quality strategic content for the C4JR media platforms, including social media, newsletters, podcast and website, ensuring alignment with C4JR’s institutional objectives.
● Produce high-quality content in English, encompassing articles, press statements, and advocacy materials that are tailored to the goals and target audience of C4JR.
● Collaborate with the C4JR secretariat, member organizations, working groups, and survivor networks to create pertinent and informed content that emphasizes group activities, survivor-centric narratives, and advocacy initiatives.
● Ensure that all content adheres to C4JR’s mission and complies with ethical guidelines, including the Toolkit for Ethical Engagement with Survivors.
● Plan, create, publish and share new content on the C4JR website and media platforms.
Communication and Campaign
● Provide support in designing and implementing effective advocacy campaigns to raise awareness about the Yazidi Survivors Law and related initiatives.
● Prepare targeted communication materials for specific audiences, such as policymakers, survivors, and international allies.
● Draft messaging for events, webinars, and collaborative initiatives with C4JR members.
● Build and sustain relationships with journalists and opinion leaders to effectively pitch stories that advance C4JR’s objectives, mission, and vision.
● Respond promptly to media enquiries and facilitate interviews by providing relevant content.
Monitoring and Evaluation
● Monitor the impact and effectiveness of communication activities, regularly reporting on performance metrics.
● Adjust communication strategies as necessary to ensure maximum visibility and impact.
REQUIREMENTS
. Education and Experience
● University degree or equivalent experience in journalism, media, communications, or a similar discipline.
● Minimum of 3 years of proven experience and achievements in content creation, public relations, or communications, preferably in the advocacy or non-profit sector.
Essential Qualifications:
● Strong writing and editing skills in English.
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the capacity to tailor messages for diverse audiences and media platforms.
● Experience working in Middle Eastern contexts and politically and culturally aware.
● Demonstrated expertise in reparations, particularly with a focus on the Yazidi [Female] Survivors Law.
● Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategies independently to secure significant media coverage across various outlets.
● Exceptional interpersonal relationship management and strong communication skills.
● Well-established contacts for generating news stories with international journalists, editors, and the broader media landscape.
● Be aware of the latest trends and news about ISIL survivors.
● Familiar with web applications such as Mailchimp, WordPress, Canva, and analytics tools.
● Familiarity with SEO, social media trends, and algorithms.
Desirable Qualifications:
● Proficiency in Arabic or Kurdish to support multilingual content creation.
● Experience in human rights and ISIL survivors’ issues.
● Previous experience working in international non-governmental organizations.
● Background in journalism and multimedia production.
● Working knowledge of graphic design production techniques.
