Main Purpose of the position:

Prepare, provide and present health education sessions to the population/patients according MSF principles and values in order to promote health information through health measures and hygiene conditions as well as provide information about MSF activities in order to facilitate access to healthcare.

The Community Health Educator will play a critical role in creating awareness about Tuberculosis (TB), its  prevention, treatment and Control, within the TB care packages implemented by MSF in  In the slected health facilities Sadr City of Baghdad, in close colloboration with the NTP (National TB program)The incumbent will be responsible for the implemention of health promotion activities aimed at raising awareness, promotion, prevention and TB control efforts.

 

Accountabilities:

 

  • Prepare material and deliver health education sessions, messages and topics addressed to different populations regarding hygiene, diseases and prevention.
  • Ensure all the patients and caretakers are well informed, according to protocols, about health-related issues and services provided.
  • Monitor health situation and living conditions of the population by conducting nutritional screening, collecting information related to food security, checking vaccination status of children, looking actively for any defaulters in programs that require this type of research, collecting information on number of people arriving or leaving the community, births and deaths in the community, etc.
  • Identify people with medical problems, contact with medical team and report for immediate transfer if needed. He/she has to inform to the line manager about any problem encountered (population, equipment, material…).
  • Report to line manager of all results of screening and visits on a regular basis.
  • In collaboration  with the HP supervisor, implement health promotion strategies and activities for the target population in the selected health facilities in Sadir City
  • Use of culturally appropriate IEC materials on selected topics and tools for health education campaigns related to TB prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and stigma reduction.
  • Collaborate closely with social workers and other stakeholders to promote TB awareness, orientation & control initiatives
  • Provide monthly reports to HP supervisor according to activities.
  • Monthly data collection, analysis, and reporting on health promotion activities, ensuring accurate documentation of outcomes and lessons learned.
  • Stay informed about developments in TB treatment, and prevention strategies
  • Work in close collaboration with the MSF pediatrician
  • Adhere to MSF’s principles and protocols, including medical ethics, confidentiality, and humanitarian principles, in all aspects of work.

Requirements:

Education

Literacy essential. An internal MSF training on health messages will be necessary.

Experience

Desirable: Experience in health education in community and health centres.

Languages

  • Essential: Arabic (spoken & written).
  • Desirable: English.

Knowledge

  • Good writing skills. Good understanding of health promotion & public health
  • Strong empathetic ability
  • Creative and flexible approach to work, and ability to work well within a team.
