All INTERSOS employees are expected to perform their roles and responsibilities according to the INTERSOS charter of values, code of ethics, PSEA and Child Protection policies. The job description is mandatory for all positions within INTERSOS and shall be signed by the employee within the first week of employment.

Purpose/objective of the position:

The social worker will play a vital role in providing support to women and girls survivors of GBV within a dedicated community. S/he will typically Identify cases of women and girls’ survivors of GBV in the selected within their communities in need of help and assess their needs, situations, strengths, and support networks to determine their goals by supporting the survivors and those close to the survivors with basic psychosocial counseling. S/he will be also responsible on the safe identification of the GBV survivors and is expected to ensure a good coordination with the community support system available and with the service providers in the areas and will responsible to ensure any GBV concerns/ cases are reported to the Case Management team ensuring that principles of case management are respected and that quality services are being provided to persons with protection concerns. He/she will support in the arrangement of the per-support group activity in the selected areas by arranging the space, mobilization of beneficiaries for focus group discussions for both Case Management and Legal team.

 

Generic Duties:

  1. *Identification of GBV cases for Case Management: Conduct tour visits in the selected areas and conduct initial assessments for cases with GBV concerns and safely refer to the Case Management team for possible inclusion in the Case Management process. comprehensive assessments of individuals and families to identify their needs and vulnerabilities. Manage cases in line with SOPs, adhere to standard documentation processes and follow best practice guidance;
  2. *PFA and Psychosocial Support*: Offer psychological first aid, emotional and psychological support to individuals who have or are experiencing trauma, or other related stressors due to a GBV concern. Implement counseling and therapeutic interventions to promote mental well-being and resilience.
  3. *Community Engagement*: Build strong relationships within the local community to gain trust and understanding of the unique needs and cultural sensitivities. Mobilize community resources and facilitate community-based initiatives to address social issues.
  4. *Service Mapping and safe referrals: Maintain the coordination with other service providers and ensure up to date service mapping is considered in the selected areas. Refer cases that require specialized services to other service providers and conduct follow-ups.
  5. *Advocacy and Awareness*: Advocate for the rights and dignity of vulnerable populations, including men, women, girls and boys with a focus on women and girls from the different population of concerns. Raise awareness about humanitarian issues and promote inclusivity, non-discrimination, and gender equality if needed.
  6. *Mobilization of beneficiaries: Support in the mobilization of individuals from the selected communities for the purpose of promoting awareness session among families and local community members in general with a focus on GBV matters and Legal Laws matters. Also, support in arranging for peer-support session jointly with the Case Management team.
  7. *Capacity Building*: Provide training and capacity-building sessions to local organizations, community leaders, and volunteers to enhance their ability to respond effectively to humanitarian crises. Share best practices and empower local communities to take an active role in their own recovery.
  8. *Reporting and Documentation*: Maintain accurate and confidential records of client interactions, assessments, and service provision. Generate regular reports on the progress and impact of humanitarian interventions for donors and stakeholders.
  9. *Emergency Response*: Be prepared to respond swiftly to any emergency situations might occur within the selected communities and ensure to report immediately to INTERSOS program teams.
  10. *Reporting: Ensure to share regular reports on various social issues and needs with the Case Management team and informs the supervisors about any difficulty met in INTERSOS program activities implementation in the selected areas;
  11. *Data Protection Protocols: Follow information management protocol, including documentation in case files and confidentiality of data;

Additional tasks:

Facilitate the participation of all the segments of the target population to the planned activities held at the assigned center, notably the most vulnerable ones (refugees, local community, youth, women, elderly, minority members, people with disabilities etc.), ensuring that proper attention is paid to specific emotional and physical needs;

Be available to participate in meetings and trainings in INTERSOS office or in any selected areas when requested;

Accomplish any other assignments given by supervisors or the PM.

Person Specification:

Education and professional experience:

  • University Degree in Social work or a related field

  • A minimum of 1 year of progressively responsible professional experience is required in humanitarian aid, social work, or community development.
  • Strong observation, analytical and listening skills
  • The capacity to absorb legal/procedural information
  • The ability to negotiate/mediate/interpret on behalf of service users
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work effectively in diverse environments.
  • Knowledge of humanitarian principles and international humanitarian law.
  • Willingness to travel and work in challenging conditions.

Languages:

  • Fluency in Kurdish (Sorani) and Arabic (written and spoken), English is an asset;
