Function prerequisite:

The Vehicle Fleet Mechanic (VFM) is part of the project support team and logistics department under direct supervision of the Logistics Officer (LO). The position requires:

  • Knowledge of vehicle maintenance.
  • Excellent cooperating ability, and ability to organise time according to priorities.
  • Spoken and written proficiency in Arabic.
  • Communicative, mature, and responsible.

General responsibilities:

The Vehicle Fleet Mechanic supports the project in vehicle and equipment maintenance and servicing. The Vehicle Fleet Mechanic does this under direct supervision of the Logistics Officer, in close coordination with the Fleet Assistant and support from the Fleet Officer, and with full respect for compliance to relevant guidelines, policies, and processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular and systematic maintenance and servicing of NPA fleet vehicles to ensure they are in full roadworthy conditions, keeping accurate records of plans/schedules and routine preventative maintenance performed; such as lubricating, oil changes, and failure analysis.
  • Conduct repair or replacement of worn parts, such as brake pads, wheel bearings and disassembled and reassembled parts; and tire repairs (change, balance, punctures) using the relevant professional tools.
  • Ensure that all tools and equipment are kept in good condition, and working area is clean and tidy.
  • Initiate timely reporting of faulty equipment, materials, or additional faults found during servicing with attention to cause of faults; such as driver negligence.
  • Assist Logistics staff proactively in identification of purchasing needs for servicing materials (such as tires, oils, lubricants) and additional servicing requirements, with high level of attention to quality of items.
Guiding Policies, Documents, and Principles
  • Adhere to all NPA policies, regulations and procedures; including those specific to the department including, but not limited to; NPA global and Iraq MAD Logistic handbooks and guidelines, donor guidelines, NPA Iraq HR Policy and NPA Accounting Principles.
  • Work within the framework of NPA core values.
  • Act as an ambassador for NPA, through professionalism and conduct. This includes, as relevant, representing the organisation in a loyal and responsible manner.
  • Follow all verbal and/or written instructions, unless in direct violation of safety and duty of care.
  • Maintain and care for all equipment issued by NPA and for any loss or damage, being liable for repair or replacement in case of damage resulting from negligence.
  • Ensure a safe workplace and protect all staff and equipment from damage/ injury.

Required qualifications:

Must have:

  • Recognised certificate in mechanic works.
  • Valid driving license (authorised for both manual and automatic transmission).

Desirable:

  • High School degree.

Experience:

Must have:

  • At least 2 years’ professional experience in vehicle mechanics, including servicing/maintaining diesel (4×4) vehicles

Desirable:

  • Experience with Toyota vehicles and generators
  • Experience in working with international NGO’s
